I have some knives that I want to put my own scales on some folders and fixed blades. Question is does G10 or carbon fiber fray on the edges when routed or drilled? And will standard router bits work or would downward shear bits be recomended? And what drill bits to use, brad point, forstner, standard?
I have a complete wood working shop, so just trying to figure out from some people what are the best tools to use.

I have not had problems with it fraying when machined. There will be some loose fiber at the ends of the mesh but it is easily sanded away. I am not sure you can use wood router bits, its tough stuff which dulls tools quickly and preferes lower cutting speeds.

I have used all types of drills sucessfully at slow speed, I prefer brad point, they cut nicely and leave a better hole overall.

The dust is very irratable, I wear long sleeves with rubber gloves and respirator. I also have a active dust control system to prevent the dust from getting all over the shop.

When you say "standard" and you mean carbide tipped, then yes, router bits will work fine. If not, you might get some cutting done before it dulls the bit.

Wear a respirator as PK said, the dust is bad news.

yes when I mean carbide router bits. I don't use steel router bits. Thanks for letting me know about useing brad point drill bits. Any buffing compounds to try and shine it up?
