G10 and Customs - Anyone else feel this way?

I think G10 is great on some knives, but the finish is what really matters.

Two nearly identical knives, and the G10 looks kinda like green plastic:D I still like the knife though! But yes, I think G10 can "cheapen" the look of a knife ($700+) when there are "nicer" materials available. Purely subjective.

Dang, I love that Begg. If this thread turns into a GAW, I'm in. [emoji12]

Used to like anything g10, then CF, then Ti. Still love all of them, but now need shape to turn me on. No matter the material, I like sculpted/milled finishes. But unfortunately full customs are above my pay grade.

Here's one of my newest deliveries. Very far from custom, but with the shaped Ti and G10 inlays, I think it looks great....especially considering the price tag well under two bills. And it doesn't hurt to have an action that rivals any of my best bearing pivots. So yeah, I'll still take some g10.

Now that's a beauty right there. May I ask what her name is- er, what model name that is?

G10 is definitely crap, but I'm willing to take the burden off of everyones shoulders. Just send me your G10 knives. :D

Maybe because G10 are widely use on budget knife that why some people feel "cheap" toward it...

Lets change the name to high tech proprietary glass/epoxy composite and it would be fine :D

I remember when G10 was a selling point on budget knives. Everyone raved over the fact that the Skyline and Tenacious used actual g10. I do tend to notice a lot of naysayers are fairly recent members of the forum. Are you guys new-comers to the hobby as well? If you are, that could explain the distaste you have for g10. When I first started collecting knives, g10 was the cat's pajamas and the only real budget knives you could find were the aforementioned.

Surely, no knife collectors exist outside of the Internet, right?

I have nothing against G10, and if it is finished nicely, G10 can be an awesome material. However, on a $400 custom, I would prefer micarta over G10 any day.

Surely your post has a point beyond misrepresenting my own, right? I was asking if the newer members of the forum mentioning their distaste for G10 were also new to the hobby. I wasn't implying that their knife collecting timeline only starts upon registration to bladeforums. I never stated that they were; it was an inquiry. You need to learn some reading comprehension before you turn straight to sarcasm. Otherwise you just look like a nitwit with your foot in your mouth.

I would take CF or titanium (if it is internally pocketed) over G10, but I don't mind if a custom has g10 if it is 3d machined/rounded and the appropriate color.

I disagree with the people that say g10 is crappy plastic. Looks are objective but g10 is a perfectly sturdy handle material, and if you doubt that just consider that Cold Steel uses unlined g10 in almost all of their folders. Yeah you can bend the handles a millimeter or two by squeezing it as hard as you can but I don't think anyone would say they aren't strong enough.

What was there to misinterpret? You made a vague statement that held no weight. Perhaps learn how to expand on what you write. Failure to do so makes you look like a nitwit with your foot in your mouth.

I also have a few fixed blades with smooth polished g10. I actually really like that look on certain styles. Also thinking of a high polish black on black g10 on a custom chefs knife. Can look good and be bombproof.

Actually, the "statement" was a simple inquiry. There was absolutely nothing to expand upon. I'm not going to argue with a sperg though. So keep thinking what you want. Everyone else who care in the least bit-so, virtually no one-will continue knowing that you're completely and utterly wrong.
