hey - i know you can darken the colors in the micarta handles by using mineral oil, but is there any way to affect the color on the g10 handles? this is the new blue/black badger - and was wondering if i could do anything to it to make it look like the pic skunk posted (lighten up the handle a bit).

here is skunks pic...

From my experience Renaissance Wax will take all the oil and water out of the grips giving it the "lightest" color possible, YMMV.

I don't think you can do much about the color.

I know you like the lighter color but I like yours much more.
Think it may grow on you the more you look at it...hope so.

Congrats on the new INFI:thumbup:

Wash the handle off REAL well with alcohol. Lightens it right up!!

Just did mine. Worked good.

I learn something new here every week:thumbup: Gotta love this place.

If you get a chance please post some before and after pics after the alcohol wash.

Justabuyer nailed it, alcohol the sucker, soak it in alcohol. Your's is well oiled (generally considered a good thing, and will come with use) the alcohol when dry will lighten it up tons, alcohol on my 710's G10 handle turns the machined (not the heat sealed surface) areas which make up your handle to the dry color, it may take a couple of times to remove all the oil.

The pictures already in this thread capture it well. The change is that dramatic.

i washed the knife in the photo with dawn dish soap and a pot brush, rinsed it with hot water and that was it. pic was taken with a flash in a light box, no photo enhancements at all. we at the busse company store are opposed to photo color enhancements.

But SKUNK does believe in photo enhancements. All the other pix you see of skunk are Photoshopped. This is the Skunk in person http://www.much.net/free/picture.html

Really. You can trust me:eek:

thx for the info - i think im going to wash mine now! if that doesnt do it - i may have to resort to the alcohol.

Sweet... my Badger looks exactly like yours w/the much darker Blue/Black versus the lighter and I like the looks of the lighter. I'll try washing w/Dawn dishwashing detergent or some alcohol. :)

Wash the knife with dawn, wash your sorrows with alcohol, do not reverse this proceedure!!:eek: Been there, done that, tastes like caca:barf:!

Hey the wash thing doesn't work:grumpy:

The slabs on my FBM didn't turn more blue after I washed them... they are still Black G-10 just like before I washed them. Whats up with that?
