I need a little advice on g10, Ive never used the stuff before and figured id give it a try so i bought some blue/black 2x2 and contoured it out using 80 first and then 180 and it looks kinda drab and muddled. is it this particular color combo or do i need to go down to a finer grit? also will using an aggressive buffing compound on it make a difference? thanks.

definitely go higher grits, G10 can take a nice polish just keep going to a higher grit until you like the finish. Also that stuff is really bad for you, work it wet if possible and use a respirator.

I've used blue/black before. Have you wiped it off yet? I usually take it to at least 400 grit, depending on how much texture is necessary.

yeah, its been wiped off. ill absolutely use water to carry away the dust, good suggestion. so is it worthwhile buffing it lightly after i finish it with a higher grit or will that just make it to slick? ive heard it can be slippery material when moisture gets on it.

I will generally wet sand to 600 git at least. Often times I will go all the way to 1500. Gives it a very nice polish and feel in the hand.

Same here.

I don't know, I hardly ever buff anything. It's worth a shot; if you don't like it just go back over it with the last grit of sandpaper you used. I haven't had a problem with it getting too slick. Even with a fine finish and wet, G10 has good "gription".

it is such an awesome thing to have a wealth of knowledge so readily available. thanks everyone.

I take it to 400 grit then buff with pink compound. That pink compound is great stuff for synthetics and wood

I'll echo a couple others, at least to 600. A little less if you plan on a blasted finish.

Scratches from 180 are still deep enough that you'll be able to notice them very easily.

went to 1200 no buff. this is more what i was looking for. thanks again.

That is yours , huh? Wow! Not at all what I was expecting. When I saw the date stamp on the picture yesterday I wasn't sure if this was yours or an example of what you are shooting for. I like it!

its mine. others have pointed out the date thing on other pictures. lazy. thank you. i'll post a picture of it done too. hopefully next saturday.
