G10 vs Micarta

I have never had blood stain either black or tan canvas micarta...they will get dirty from use but Dawn detergent seems to cure that. For a Safe Queen nothing Beats SATIN and BLACK PAPER....But for me that is not considered a hard use type knife combo...YMMV

Yea I don't see a point in buying a knife that will never be used unless it is one of those art pieces with gold inlay and filigree

Roger that....however I have some SE limited quantity anniversary models that are just toooooo purdddy to use....So I beat the daylights out of my CG Versions...:D

I have some Busse's and others that are limited in production numbers. Also some vintage models that have never been used. Two different philosophical views seem to predominate here. I like users, and do use them, but keep others for visual and handling enjoyment. Not going to use my unscathed, pretty expensive SH1 to cut anything but air. But don't worry, with over 25 Bussekins, (and counting!), no cutting chore goes undone...;-)

Yea people thought I was crazy cause I carry my 0777 and use it granted not hard use, but it doesn't sit in a safe. I think for me it is more the idea that I can use em hard if needed and they will be backed up by Busse. Seems a shame to get a knife meant for hard use and not use it. But I also understand the limited edition non-replaceable aspect as well. Part of the reason o am careful with my 777 because it can't be replaced and was not supportable after production. So yea I can see both sides.

It wasn't until I got into Busse's, that I discovered the "commodity" aspect of knives. I watch the BF Exchange, and see certain blades go through several owners, like stocks, bonds, pork bellies, etc. After posting my last, I remembered my two SHSH2's that will also never get used by me. They represent (currently), about $1,200. That may be part of my "old age" monetary survival strategy...;-)

Like others have stated, canvas micarta does seem to give the most grip. That being said I ordered the BIG NMFSH with G10 handles and I love them. Does it feel slightly less "grippy" than canvas, well yes. But it also holds just fine and doesn't give my hands any hot spots while chopping with it. If you think about most machete handles you will get my point.

Thanks for all the great input everyone. Sadly, after reading through everything, I'm not any closer to a decision. I'm planning on the Flying Mojo as my first. Looks like the example one up has Micarta handles and I like the look of it. Maybe I'll just go with that and save the $65 and see how I like it.

Worst case, I could get G10 scales made for it right?

So many decisions! Good luck in yours. I would perhaps consider starting smaller, and less expensive. Pick up a used RMD with micartas on the BF Exchage for around $150 and try it out...;-)

I have a Spartan Nyx with Micarta, but it is set up a bit different than what the Mojo is and G10 on a ZT0100. But from what I have found is that quality varies among manufacturers, especially for Micarta, which led the request for info from the guys here who have experience directly with Busse. Plus, I never need an excuse to buy another knife. Those Crusader pics that were posted have me lusting for one as my second Busse

The first bussekin I bought, an RMD, I ordered with black paper micarta scales. That is the last blade that I have picked up with paper micarta. I love the look, but I field-dress a lot of critters, and the paper is too slick for my uses. ETA: I've had no problems with blood stains on the canvas micartas, it cleans up just fine.

Any Busse material is top notch! I like micarta though, then g10. Not a big paper fan but they do that right too, just not my favorite.

If I knew for sure that it was going to be "the one", I wouldn't worry about it. I'm not a collector. One or three good knives is good enough for me so I didn't want to possibly hurt the resale value until I got a chance to try out a few others. When the new one comes in (hopefully Friday ) I'm going to strip it, play with both of them for a little while, decide which one I like better and probably send one of them down the road to fund another one. I'm thinking either red and black or orange and black for the next one. :)

I am playing the waiting game on my first Busse but from experience with other knives as well as gun grips in both G10 and Micarta I have found that Micarta is my preference for the most part. I like G10 in folders but I feel like Micarta has more character. Also, since my hands like to sweat quite a bit, I have found Micarta stays grippier when wet which makes it more practical to me. YMMV. You can't really go wrong with either material.

I have a TGLB with G-10 and use it .....it works fine chopping. I feel that it may get slick when liquid is present but also feel that gloves should be worn with G-10. Micarta is very grippy on bare hands and gloves as well. As much as I like G-10, my next TGLB will be with black canvas micarta. It looks so nice. As you stated, you are no closer to a decision, most of what I am seeing is it boils down to preferences. Both are very nice and I want every model they have in micarta and G-10. ...hope this helps.
