I have just bought some G11 and would like to know what way to cut the sheets. The first sheet is 5 x9 and 3/4 thick . Do you cut along with the layers or cross cut them . I also have a piece that is 1 1/2 inches thick will this thicker stuff be harder to cut and work with . If you had the choice what would you recomend to get in the future 3/4 thick or 1 1/2 thick . Thanks kellyw

I only use 1/4, and 3/8 for large blades why did you order it so thick?

you can use a bandsaw to cut them. A jigsaw will work if you have a vice, a hacksaw can be used but it might take awhile.

A tile saw will make quick work of cutting it into blocks. The thick stuff will be better for blocks. While the thin stuff is less work to make into scales. As to layer orientation, I cut them so that the layers would lay flat on the flats of the knife.

I used a 14" band saw to cut the 11/2" stuff, TOOK FOR EVER and a crucked cut.
Others have suggested tile saw.

I use a coarse steel blade on my metal cutting bandsaw, I think its 10 tpi. I keep it oiled because it will build friction. Pretty thick stuff. The wood saw runs too fast and burns up the blade.

I did cut some with my miter saw with a wood cutting blade in it. I only tried it because the blade was already pretty shot, and yes the G11 finished it off. It did make pretty fast work of the block of G11. I saved the old blade and will use it to cut G11 only until it can go no more.
