If I was making one new, I would probably make it one piece, but I bought this one.

I just drilled a clearance hole to use the original tapped hole, and tapped another hole in my new arm with a screw sticking through it to catch on the bottom of the arm.

It was a quick, 10 minute fix on day 2 of using the machine when I was really angry at the way it came stock.

And yes, my platform uses no roller on the top.
It just has a radius there for the belt to roll over so I can finish grind all my blades parallel to the edge, and get my plunges perfect.
It's water cooled too, because it gets HOT.
 
cool idea , i was designing a few platform design and looking at what is possible and at some point thinking of making a roller -less arch platform that allow me to grind like a 14" wheel . been really busy . recently with my other project and silver production as well as some leather work . but will try to put in at last few hour everyday to get progress slow but moving style
