Gadget rabbit holes

I think they're both mid-level consumer brands. I have at least one product from each one and have no complaints. Sometimes I get brands mixed up, it's Bausch & Lomb that is a better brand.
Bushnell owned the B&L brand rights for binoculars in the 70's and they were made in Japan at that time, from what I've seen they were equal to Bushnell and Tasco's best offerings at that time but I don't know how they compared to the early American made B&L binoculars.
Bushnell bought Tasco around 20 years ago and I believe still owns them, both are definitely affordable consumer brands but It seems like Tasco has become the even more budget brand ( probably better than Simmonds though ) these days.

They were probably actually about the same in the 80's, but my Bushnell Ensign bino's were just a cheaper offering.
I'm sure they had some better stuff and Tasco some equally cheap stuff.

I posted a picture here of a driver set I put together. IMG_1738.jpeg
Somebody mentioned it reminded them of the excelite sets. Which reminded me of my Dad’s Excelite tools he used at work. I hadn’t seen them in 20+years and assumed he sold or gave them away. So I started bottom trolling ebay for bargains and mismatched sets to put together. IMG_4467.jpegIMG_4470.pngIMG_4472.jpegIMG_4475.jpegIMG_4476.jpegIMG_4493.jpeg

Then found my Dad’s service kit. IMG_5841.jpeg

Those Xcelite service kits were always cool.
Sadly when the Acetate handles start to off gas and smell like puke it gets into the case and that smell is hard to eliminate.
As far as I know it's impossible to permanently eliminate that puke smell from the driver handles ( same for Vaco and Craftsman) but an Ozone generator would probably work wonders on the case if necessary.

I know some of the pictures on ebay I can smell them through my phone!

That’s why I like the sets with the single handle. Only one handle to smell. New handles are available. The bits are good forever if not abused.

I find airing the case out in the sun. Gets rid of the smell. I’m probably not as sensitive to it as some people.

I don't like the smell, but it doesn't make me sick like some people, then there are also people who like the smell because it reminds them of their dads toolbox and helping him as a kid.

Yup. Got a bunch of random things here and there, some useful some not.
Solder kit, voltage meter, all sorts of sae/metric bits, sockets, taps, mini ratchets, loupes, and bunch more. Too many hobbies.

more disposable income
This is a major limiter for me, along with just not having much physical space left for ever more stuff !

Just gonna have to bite the bullet and get rid of things I haven't even touched in many years . Maybe make a little money along the way ? ☺️

I just have so many memories, hopes and dreams attached to all this junk . Born hoarder .

Also , seems every time I've actually managed to get rid of something ...I end up needing it !

And now most stuff is much more expensive to replace , and not as good quality .

I was right with you ...until this ^^^! :p

Pray tell , what kind of gears ?

I can understand this.....
This summer I was cleaning out my dad's shop/barn/etc....he had a bunch of stuff from His Pop. My grandfather was an accomplished tinkerer. He made/did Everything. Really Amazing stuff!
Anyhow, I found some neat micarta gears I saved from the dumpster.
Do I keep them, as gears? Do I cut them up? Do I make gear shaped knife handles? Idk....
