I know to show off a knife it is best to post it on the "knife makers' gallery" section on BF. But I was wondering do you find repulsive to see a knife posted in "Shop Talk". I'm asking because when I actually send emails with photos of finished knives to customers I also attach the link of the thread related to that knife if there is one on BF; they love to see their knife is having good feedbacks from knife community. On couple of occasions I posted some on "gallery". As it is open only to registered users customers couldn't able to see the thread and they didn't want to register. Also I suspect the gallery threads doesn't indexed by search engines like Google. But it is too easy to find a thread posted on "Shop Talk".

Can a Mod enlighten me why the "gallery" section is limited to only registered users...

As a paying member, I think you can post anywhere you like. Are you aware of the Custom and handmade sub forum? They always like pictures posted there:

I think it's ok to post in Shop talk too. At least, I've never heard of any rule against it.

Thanks Philip, I wasn't aware of that sub forum. I always felt to post a knife on "Shop Talk" was some kind of "off-topic" posting as it is mainly for info exchange on knife making.

I think one of the reasons I've posted a few in Shop Talk is because that is where I interact with people. This is where the familiar names are, and I know that any feedback given will be coming from sources I trust. Another reason I've posted here instead of the gallery is that there seems to be more traffic. A few months ago, I posted two knives I had recently finished in the gallery, and got ZERO responses. Even if they all would have said "They suck, keep your day job" or whatever, at least that would have been something.... Around here I know I'll get honest feedback and constructive criticism. Might be a little off topic from the OP, but I thought I'd chime in...

I feel the same, Mark. I know I appreciate seeing peoples work when they post in here. I also browse the gallery. I know there are slightly different audiences for both with some cross over. Definitely more traffic in here from makers, though with good feedback.

Plus, before I had a paid membership, this is one of the only place I could post pictures. So now that I'm a paying member, old habits are hard to break, and the friends I've made on these forums are typically in Shop Talk.
