Got an e-mail notification from Galls that they have new products in... they had a bunch of images when I saw this:

Looks like a cheap imitation of a spydie to me

Sad to see a major LEO Supplier stoop to selling Flea Market Trash, but hey...so it goes...

I saw them at a wholesale warehouse last week for $25.00 ... Per DOZEN ! I'll bet they are sharper than marshmallows too.

The sad part is that this type of marketing hurts Spyderco. The uneducated knife buyer buys a cheap imitatation, then when he sees a real Spyderco, he tells his friends not to buy one ... because they are junk. (thinking it's the same knife that he has)

One Spyderco would last you longer than a several dozen of those "Knock-offs"... and the Spydie would be sharp!

There seems to be some "similarity" to a Spyderco. Great margins too (usual wholesale price is about $3.00). S&W sells the same knife under their "proud" name.

In Gall's defense, I'm sure their buyer is just not aware of the "copies" game in the knife industry and some sharp salesman "made them a good deal".

$25 for that CRAP!

Is the blade steel even?

Went to Manchester the other day an in one shop saw a range of Spyderco blades. I thought Hmmmmm interesting. Took me 3 seconds looking in the glass case to see they were all pathetic Whitby copies of out beloved knives. Not cheap either. Some even proudly boasted being made of High Carbon 420J2 stainless steel! Please shoot me now!

I've seen this stuff at gun shows for 1.75 if you get 3 or more. These are P.O.S. and I don't mean point of sale. Copies or for the slow folks. My mom always told me "If you can't go 1st Class, stay home"

you can find that type of copycat blade in the 7-11's around here as well as many major gas stations and truck stops....we have one dealer around here who i have nicknamed "wife beater boy" (he has a domestic violence history)who sells these at the guns shows here in memphis for anywhere from 2.00 to 5.00 depending on how many you buy at one time from him....he also has the famous 10.00 dollar otf and sideopeners that are chinese made....like some one said above a sucker is born every minute but more importantly there are two or more born every minute to take him...i guess galls has fallen into both catagories....they bought the knives and were taken and now are taking their customers to the cleaners with such crap....feverdoc

I see where you can submit a customer review about the item we are discussing. I wonder if they allow objective reviews?

I'm sure there are more than a few people here who would be qualified to write a fair review of this "knock-off"

A couple of days ago, I also saw a Spyderco ripoff. Beretta makes a model called Tasca that appears to be a duplicate of the Native. There are minor differences, but the profile of the blade and the handle is a darn near exact match. The kicker is that it retails at www.eKnifeWorks.com for $54.99. If you go to the website, search for "BE181486".

You know, I look at things like this and just laugh. To think that some POS could pass for a Spyderco! I had a friend that had bought some crappy knife like that claiming that it was a Spydie and how proud he was of it. I set him straight and lent him my Delica. The next day he returned it and put his money towards his own Spyderco. My rule of thumb is that in a quality knife, the maker should be proud enough of it to have some sort of brand stamp or insignia on it (ex.- the cool looking spyder). No mark or stamp, no buy.

Dude, that must have been an eyesore to a loyal Spyderco ELU like you... Cheap stuff aren't the ones to stay, IMHO...

Hey Codeman, if I'm not mistaken, the Tasca predates the Native. Beretta makes a nice knife. The early slab handled models were especially nice, but I don't think they sold too well. Don't get me wrong, I've been a Spyder man since the early 80's but I think you're giving Beretta a bad rap.
