Galls Rescue Tool

my father is an EMT and my brother is going through fire school. so i get to read through galls quite a bit. i shot them an email and i got a reply almost instantly. its a great tool they say, but you're better off getting something else. if its for your car or something, it wouldnt be a bad addition, but as a tool used a lot, dont bother

Ask yourself what you're going to use the tool for.

I do not have that tool. I've looked at it when I was on a service, but imagined that something was lacking somewhere. I based that soley on the tool's price point. Since I already carried a Leatherman, I invested $14 in an 18" I-beam pry bar with a hammer end. It is similar to the Estwing PB-18, but has a little more of a hammer head, and a different I-beam construction. I felt it was a good balance between functinality and size/weight. Good for prying, and it'll do ok at demo/wrecking/overhaul.

What would you use it for ?

I got 18 years on the job and out of over 500 guys on my dept. I have never seen one and quite frankly most guys would laugh at anyone who carried something like that.

Well that is basically the same direction that I was heading in, but given that I have never actually handled one and tried it, I thought I'd reserve judgment. Still, I suspect it is more crap than a high quality item that would be functional in actual use.
