I was just reading some "stuff" about the future of the Game Of Thrones series. I got hooked on it when HBO produced the show. I read the first 5 books. Now, a couple of years later,
the fans are still waiting for the 6th book. Now, the publisher says that it won't come out this year. IMHO, Martin has done himself in. When it was insinuated that he wouldn't live long
enough to finish the series, he flipped off his fans. I and a large number of fans of the series don't care anymore. There are 100s if not 1000s of authors who are just as good if not
better. There will always be some diehards who will wait with bated breath for the next book, but I won't be among them.

The same thing happened with Steven King's Dark Tower series. I read the first 3 books. Then, nothing for 5 or 6 years. He finished the series poorly. I haven't read anything by him since.

The first few books were interesting but (spoiler alert) it lost me when he killed off Arya and Jon...okay that's a joke. But he did lose me when he started introducing characters that I just don't give a rat's about. He stated his intention to do that in the first chapter of the first book but it doesn't really work for me.

If you like medieval fantasy give Patrick Rothfuss' The Name of the Wind a go.. it's quite different but IMHO one of the mosteentertaining stories/series that's out there. He's working on the third book now.

Rothfuss does seem to be a bit slow in writing but it appears he is also running a charity on the side so I guess it's okay :)

I liked the books quite well, but he has all the signs and symptoms of Robert Jordan syndrome. No more for me.

Meh, what right do we have to make demands on his time?

Was there even a firm release date that he missed? Not to my knowledge.... It was always a 'done when it's done' sort of deal.

I'll be reading the final installments of the series if/when they come out.

I havent watched any of the shows and dont plan to, Ive stayed away from all the hoopla surrounding him and the show and just enjoyed the books. its none of my business what he does with his life. I started reading them when they first came out so Im quite used to waiting for them. Im just getting back to Robert Jordans series, I had stopped reading that when it was dragging on but its not the first series to do so, Terry Goodkind did much the same thing with The Sword of Truth and that TV series was worse. Jonathon Moeller is good and if you want a little modern fantasy, Jim butcher or Simon Green have some good series out.

You may have a point, but I think you may be a minority. Flipping off your readers on national TV is not good customer relations. ;)

Martin is 66 years old and doesn't look very healthy. Some of his fans are concerned that he will not live long enough to finish the series.
On top of that, I read that he has a clause of some sort in his contract with the publisher that forbids anyone else from completing the series.

There are a lot of people who become emotionally involved with the characters in a series like this. :roll eyes: Every time Martin kills off one
of their favorite characters, they call their therapist.

One thing is for sure... Those young actors do not have a long shelf life. :D

The show must go on.

I have to admit that when Sandor Clegane (The Hound) died I was very upset. In fact, I crawled into bed, assumed the prenatal position and turned my electric blanket
up to nine. RIP Hound. :(

I agree that most of the later books were weak, but liked how he wrapped it up and made it all vaguely monomythic.

I've read Game of Thrones as well, skipped the series. I'm with you there. Martin phoned in the last book and I expect more of the same to come. If it does.

I think there's two factor contributing to this now, the fact that Martin makes enough money to not give a crap about finishing the series now with his new fame, and the fact that it seems like he doesn't know where his series is going anymore. I've read the books, and to me it reads like he kept writing and wring, making the story bigger and more spun out, and now he doesn't know how to tie all of these events and characters together anymore.

Maybe they'll just do what they did with Boardwalk Empire. They just killed off most of the main characters and let it go. The season finale of the Boeardwalk last season sucked big time. HBO and Martin will do the same once they figure they've made more money than God, and want to finish it up. Or HBO can do what they did with Deadwood. They just let that one drop and no real finish. HBO can be untrustworthy like that.

Spoiler alert, don't read below if you don't want to read some possible theories of GoT,

The Hound probably is not dead, as referenced in the link above. He probably is the digger on the Quite Isle, which is an Island for the Faith of Seven. Now, I'm hoping that it's him and I'm hoping that Sir Robert Strong, the new knight of the Kings guard, is actually his brother Gregor Clegane (The Mountain who rides) reanimated by the quack Qyburn. We know that Cersi will choose Sir Robert Strong as her Champion for her trail by combat, but who will the faith choose as theirs as his opponent!?? My guess is someone who needs to atone for his sins, is good at fighting and large enough to fight the Mountain(Robert).....thus setting up a battle of the brothers who hate each other for the right of Cersi to live or die.. I can dream right...:D I'm on Team Sandor, LETS GO HOUND! Most underrated character in the book in my opinion.

SPOILERS & CONSPIRACY

Yup, I am thinking there will be a Clegane showdown. Otherwise what was the point of writing about their childhood drama. Perhaps if they have been re-animated using different sorts of magic it will even play into the ice and fire theme. It'll be a fun fight to watch for sure. :D:thumbup:

There are other crazy theories out there as well.

There is the rather dark "Jojen Paste" theory about the cost of awakening Bran's greenseer powers. I am inclined to believe this one. There are many theories about Jon's parents in which I lean towards the R + L = J explanation. The "rat cook" theory about cannibalism at the bolton/stark marriage also seems interesting.

There is one crazy theory that the "Night's King", a.k.a. the 13th commander of the Night's watch, is in fact the Chief Other who has yet to be revealed. He started messing around with ice magic at the night fort and made war on the realm until his brother, the Stark in Winterfell had to stop him and banish him beyond the wall. This Chief other has been converting Craster's sons to Others and making ice zombies to get even. He'll use the long winter to psuh deep into southern lands.

End of Spoilers

Lots of fun things out there to occupy the minds of fans waiting for the next book to come out. :D

Yes, one could get lost for days in the theories and prophecies of ASOIF. Lot's of good tidbits and pieces of info you could skip right by if not carefully reading, I know I did. The Dunk and Egg series is a good read to tide you over until the next book. It takes place 100 years before GoT and has some back history into the houses of Westeros. Dunk is a great character, I hope Martin can finish out the 10 novellas he has planned for that series, but at this point I'll just take book 6 and seven of the main series.

Yep the Dunk and Egg books are quite interesting. Dunk the Lunk.

Interesting tidbit about ASOIAF book #7... The original title was "A Time for Wolves".

THEORY and SPECULATION
So I'm guessing the Stark pack will unite under Jon. Sansa will become a powerbroker forging alliances and bringing in new levies from the veil/south, Bran will do tree-connaissance, Rickon will lead a pack of savage barbarians, and Arya willl shiv anyone who gets in the way. :D
End theory

I bought this t-shirt and wear it. Not one person has asked about it. :(

A Time for Wolves is an interesting title and I remember when he changed it to A Dream of Spring , definitely gives the impression that the Starks come out on top, at least I hope.

I wish he had released The She Wolves of Winterfell with the Dangerous Women anthology. I believe we may find out that Old Nan and Dunk had a thing together, thus producing the bloodline that produces Hodor. I believe that GRRM has confirmed that Brienne of Tarth is a descendant of Duncan, which makes sense if you read her chapter and read the Dunk and Egg series. She is essentially the female version of Dunk, imo.
