Game Warden for backpacking???

I always have a Warden in the pack. I do trade out between the .17 and the .22 depending on what I expect ... day hunting or camping...
While I can see the use of a larger blade I have not run into any thing my Warden couldn't handle. :D

I love my GW's. I have two .27 extra fatties that are bombproof, pry with it, dig with it, etc. I thinned out the edge on one and convexed it and it does just fine. The handles are great in the hand.

I find the wardens to be more useful in the woods than the cultellus. The handle on the cultellus is too thin and narrow to get a good grip on, it tends to twist in the hand. There's a lot more "meat" to get a hold of with the wardens. YMMV.

I find just the opposite. My CS Cultie with pins is plenty thick, And has a much longer handle for good gripping.

I do have an extra large hand though, and can only get three fingers on a GW, which isn't very usefull to me.

To me, the GW is a little too small. It's a great knife, but I would have to pair it with something bigger. I'm an experienced backpacker, and understand the value of an ounce saved. The GW is just too small for my tastes. But to each his own; everyone has theoir own favored combination of gear that works great for them, but may not work so great for someone else. If one knife was truly the be-all end-all, you would only ever find that one knife in the woods.

I really like my active duty for hiking. Lightweight, small but big enough for what I need it for, but could take a beating if it had too. I havent had a chance to go hiking with it yet, as i am still looking to get a sheath. Like many here, for a regular hike, I am a huge fan of small blades. Overnighters I like to have something more substantial for fire prep--thats where my bushwacker mistress will come in or small axe

Send Jerry a note and tell him you want a thin Boss Street. Keep the pressure on! :D

Until that one comes along, the original Lean Mean is still the best backpacking Busse IMO.

Culti or Boney Active Duty all the way man. I have a BAD and a Culti, which are both very nice. They are very light, and offer a bit more length than a GW. Excellent slicers, yet have some strength. The Culti feels better in my hand.

Edit...if you can get a lean mean as Guyon suggests...do it! They are $$$ and the only Busse I still crave.

I'll take it! :D Yeah that would be Sweet!

I agree that the Culti is a much underrated knife for general purpose. I'm also a great fan of all the BA IIIs, ABA and BAD's. But then I'm used to cleaning elk with a pocket knife.

I'd go with an AD or meaner first, but I'd still take a warden over a cultellus.

I would like to test one and see for myself.

Got an extra you can sell me?;):D

I agree 100% , the fattie GW's are a lot of blade in a compact package. Depends on what your needs are....

I EDC a .22 pumpkin warden all the time. I have not actually gone into the woods with nothing else, though. Often I will pair it up with my modded ss, which gives me a bit more slicing length and a thinner blade. I have even carried the warden, the SS, the Ash1CG, and the FBMLE on my pack at the same time. That said, I did not have a big full pack, or far to hike, just a few hours.

For loafing around in the woods, I would not feel under-knifed with the GW.

I wear an XXL glove, and they are a bit tight on my hands. The GW handle works fine for my hand.

the SS handle (or meaner) is a bit more handle to hold on to.

The Culti feels great in my hand. I really like the handle shape, blade design, and thin blades.

The Boss Street can't be beat right now for price and utility.

Sar 4 also should not be overlooked. My favorite looking smaller blade has to be the AD, and I would not feel under-knifed with one either, although the meaner gives you more blade length.

So many choices. Just pick one you like, and use it.
