Hi Mike,
Wayyyyy back in 1961 my mom and a friend went into NYC for a screening of the game show 'Number Please'. (Word game much like Wheel of Fortune) Bud Collyer was the host at the time.
Somehow mom knew that they selected their potential players from the crowd, and that a tourist was a hot choice. So she and her friend wore colorful dresses and a BIG floral hat. Must have looked like Aunt Millie....
Picked, interviewed, and placed on the show. She lasted three days before she was topped by the hitting the answer button on 'Pres*dent*al ***ker' and answering: "Presidential Cooker". (The correct answer: Presidential Rocker.)
Anyway we were all in the studio for the final day and it was fun. She won a trip to Puerto Rico, a boat and trailer, living room and dining room sets, stove, boxes of spagetti sauce, a peanut butter spreader with a case of peanut butter, and more. All told it was almost $15k back then. WHAT A HAUL! My sister still owns the Living Room set.
Thanks. Who's next?
