Now that I have your attention, don't panic on my behalf.

A good friend of mine opened a new dojo in Ohio recently, and I wanted to give him a heartfelt "dojo-warming" gift. I've always believed that the best gifts are the ones that are hardest for you to part with, because it means more.

So, my beloved Gangaola made the trip to Ohio, and is in the hands of my dear friend. I told him I was sending something, but wouldn't say what it was. He was blown away to open the package and see such a work of art, and he has been constantly remarking about how beautiful it is, Uncle. I told him to take care of it as an heirloom for his children, which he is doing.

Thought I'd pass this along to you, so you can track where your babies are after they've left the nest.

Parting really IS sweet sorrow...

Sniff,

Brian.

It is better to give than to receive. Brian, I suspect your happiness is just as great or greater than your friend's. There is no greater gift than true and honest friendship.

Uncle Bill

Brian,

Very nice present. That blade is beautiful, if I recalled correctly.

The blade was beautiful...martial friendships run deeply as I'm sure you know. this friend has stuck with me through thick and thin. --B.

True martial arts are built on a foundation of honor and so is friendship. That the two often go together is natural.

Sorry 'bout that.

Aho. catch word meaning many things including a greeting. Used in the
"well done" sense here.

Oginali, means my friend. Ginali or kinali is friend. Ginali is "proper Cherokee."

Osiyo or 'Siyo is hello sort of.
Osda is good.
Wado is thank you.
Wado equa is a "big" sort of thank you. Actually this one is wierd because usually it would be Equa wado. I have heard Elders use the Wado equa though. Strange.
My Tsalagi (Cherokee) is horrible though I keep learning little by little. Probably more than anyone wanted to know.

Ya cain't really cuss in proper Cherokee though, because there weren't any cuss words, but now the slang does a purty goot job.

Many thanks, Yvsa. My grandmother taught me a few Cherokee words but I have forgotten all of them.

Uncle Bill

Guys,

Thanks for the nice words -- my friend has done so much for me that nothing will ever be enough to repay the debt...

Best,

--B.
