I believe in free enterprise, but I also believe this is a community and some sense of brotherhood is in my mind appropriate. I'm prepared to be flamed for that.

No flames here, you should just note who engages in flipping and profiteering, and choose not to do business with them.

That is what I try to do, and have done, but sadly the profiteering market is sometimes the only place to find limited production knives. Much easier for Jerry to just say you can order two of any particular knife during ganza and that is it. You want to buy out the company store, knock yourself out. But if you are participating in ganza, there is a reasonable limit imposed for the enjoyment and benefit of the entire customer base. But jerry's company, he can do what he wants. Just the way I would handle it if it were me.

Balislinger,

You've got the right sentiment. Sometimes people do grab and flip, but these days the market is a bit saturated and customs like the ones in this ganza are selling slower, as noted earlier in the thread.

After the Knob Creek show a lot of those knives ended up on here and the bay marked WAY up and a lot of people have stuff to say about it. Since then it still happens once-in-a-while, but not NEARLY as often as it did after the Creek.

Some people couldn't care less about how we feel about their ethics. I try to note those people and not do business with them. If you've got a desirable knife and want to mark up a few dollars, cool. If it works, more power to ya. After the creek, though, there were $350 knives being sold for $700.

Ultimately the buyers dictate the prices, though. Hopefully you won't end up losing too much money if you ordered something and don't end up liking it too much. If you did, though, trading may help keep you from losing your shirt.

Flipping will always happen when the demand outstrips the supply. I think that with the frequency of the ganzaas recently and the special offerings the market has certainly slowed a little and some real bargains are popping up.

Patience and a good attitude are your only defense against flipping prices as you will eventually get the knife you want at a fair price it either takes time or knowing enough people who have the same outlook as you.

A couple of my mates here buy any Busse blades I don't want and I generally add 5-10% onto a Busse when I sell them to them. I figure all the time I spend trawling the internet for decent deals has got to be worth a couple of bucks.

Exactly! The exchange is exhibiting the power of supply and demand right now. That's why I only buy what I truly
like. Also, the good thing about Busses is that they will always have intrinsic value. If the market for them crashes, you still have a great, useful knife, and it will always be worth something to someone else if you have to sell it.

There have been times that I have been thankful for flippers. If everyone just bought one or two, then they would not be nearly as likely to resell them after I missed a Ganzaaa or a Company Store offering.

I already have three porsches why would I want to go backwards?

Chickenplucker, thanks for making me notice all my postings. Funny thing is that my 10 year anniversary on this forum is comming up this year as well. I see a giveway happening sometime this year.

For the love of all that is infi, not my SHBM  :foot:  Dennis say it ain't so :p

Customs seem to be harder to flip. Anyone who buys a bunch of customs with the intention of flipping them runs a very real risk of ending up with a bunch of knives that won't sell for very much more than they originally paid. The margins are tighter on secondary market customs- hence less incentive for the flippers.

Flippers seem to prefer limited-number company store offerings.

very wasteful unless your at a large party, for your personal use try a smaller pipe

Good idea there Gat, I think I'll try that.

I couldn't figure it out a first, or a lot later for that matter, I thought it might be a sausage maker...
