is there no end to this?

Ganzo_Knife_G710.jpg

looks to me like it has copied some stuff from benchmade 950 rift.

why is it that a lot of cheap clones and copies come from china?

Is the knife any good, judged on it's own merits?

I suppose we should turn our backs because it's an obvious ripoff.

Still, it's a nice-looking piece....

If you think that is a nice looking piece check out the original with the two tone G10! She is a stunner!

Because people buy them. Their manufacture is merely pure capitalism detached from morality. Ayn Rand would be so proud.

Oh joy another Chinese bashing thread, maybe one should post all the buck 110 knock offs that American companies made, or some of the many imitations that some current companies a lot of us have enjoyed do or have done in the past, it never seems to change.

What purpose does it serve to post this? Yeah copies are made, sh!t like this happens all the time in every aspect of life. If this thread was to do anything but bash, say to inform the public so they don't get ripped off, then the op could've typed up the differences between the 950 and this knife. Look if you guys want to bash a company I think w&c would've been a much better area but as it stands I just see a new decent beater knife

If you think it belongs somewhere else, report the post.

Also, as long as these design copies are being produced, there will be threads asking about them. People are going to voice their opinions....you're more than welcome to start your own W&C thread griping about it.

It's still on knives at the moment so until it turns too political or someone pops up with too much off topic whatnot its still technically under general discussion guidelines. I highly doubt the mods will change it from just my b!tching. And I value anyone who has a question about the knife itself or the companies products fit and finish wise, however this seems to be just a thread on how much they rip off which doesn't really benefit anyone as they can see the many examples via older threads. But I guess your right in that like many other posts, topics are constantly repeated. As for. my own topic in w&c that doesn't do anything but let me vent, which as fun as that maybe, doesn't change the fact thatthis will still be here for the next few days

I ordered one today. I'm not the biggest fan of Benchmade designs (with a couple of exceptions), so I'd never buy a Rift. But a Ganzo Rift-like knife can be fun to play with for under $20.

because china already has knife factories that make knives for all different companies. i'm also under the impression that they have weak trademark laws. i doubt many of these chinese factories have on-site designers/knife makers or they would be making their own designs. it's easy for them to buy a real benchmade, take it apart and just copy the pieces. they figure, why spend months or years, designing, prototyping and testing one particular knife, when all of that work was already done and paid for by someone else.

I have never heard of the company so I'm glad the thread was started. Why anyone would be against a thread showing an absolute copy of another knife is beyond me. I guess those are the same people that keep the rip off companies in business. Obviously you have never been stolen from or have any intellectual property if you don't see the problem. Morals and high standards are gone and as long as people get what they want, right now, as cheap as possible they will do it. I'm sure you see nothing wrong with buying stolen goods out of the back of a van either. No wonder this country is circling the drain.

Why even come to a knife enthusiast website if you like junk knives? Go to the flea market instead.

^ it's that mentality that keeps these companies in business and it's why they rip-off designs.

personally, i have zero interest in buying any knife from a company that doesn't design and R&D.

if you want an inexpensive knife, there are plenty available from good, reputable, honest companies. if you want some recommendations, i can give you some. there really is no need to buy these knock-off knives when there are so many good knives (from good companies) available in the $15-$35 range.

Obviously there is no legal recourse for these situations due to the lack of international intellectual property enforcement, the only action I can take as a concerned customer and as a proponent of property rights is to spread awareness so that eve people that are going to go buy the ganzo version will at least be aware of the fact that the credit for the design belongs to benchmade and mr osbourne, and if they like the design enough, they can support benchmade by purchasing the original

Can you recommend an inexpensive axis or ambidextrous bolt lock type knife made by a good, reputable, honest company? Even a used mini Griptilian fetches more than $50.

Come to that, the Blackie Collins bolt lock is public domain now. Why haven't any companies used it in low to mid range knives yet?

:rolleyes:Nice looking knife, too bad an American company can't make a nice knife like that.:barf:

Im against it again because its not a comparison of the two and only serves to bash a company instead of show a pro and cons listing. Now since you are unfamiliar with the subject of these knives im sure you can use the search function to see all the other past flame-wars and closed threads and read through the various points that come up, Because I guarantee the same points will still come up, the thread will still turn into a politics war and the same people will not be changing their ideas, making the whole arguing bit pointless. As to keeping them in business thats up to debate, I think the local income source is far greater then what gets taken over here. As to having int. property stolen yes I have however, that's not the point. The point is that these have been out for quite some time and bringing them back up doesnt serve a purpose. its just going through the same movements all over again. This was also not to say that there isnt a problem because I absolutely understand that it is for the good honest folks who work for it however it again it brings nothing new to light. Do you still support HP? because they have stolen and copied over hundreds of patents pertaining to copier ink from NCR and various other fortune 500 companies. its all moot. like you said its for profit, thats what corporations are literally there for. As to buying stolen goods out of a van, well there arent many stolen goods in vans around santa barbara so id probably have to go to carp or goleta for that, and thats a little far to go shopping on foot. I also dont think I have tipped the scale to crush our economy, corporations seem to do that quite well with the Iron triangle.

This last statement I applaud because its actually about the F&F of the knife and not politics. Its not that bad for the money just like the tenacious, QC problems arise yes, but the materials are still all there, the CNCing done is decent and overall not a bad knife, Now I wouldnt buy the Bm version because I dont particularly care for the knife that much. also I do go to flea markets a lot of people doont know how much the old gerbers and axes are worth which means a possible profit for me.
