Today was the 2nd annual neighborhood garage sale. I was not even aware there was an annual neiborhood garage sale...lol. It turns out it starts about 9 am and runs through noon on this one Saturday each year.
I had decided to fly my slope glider at the local hill, as the wind was out of the South East at around 10 mph. Turns out I never made it to the hill. I started seeing all these garage sales and thought to myself...I've read somewhere on bladeforums that you guys find the sweetest deals at flea markets, online sites, and garage sales!!
My intention set...I set out on my first collecting sojourn.
After about 5 or so stops with no luck...my luck changed. This stop was a wonderful old lady sitting behind an old desk with one of those old metal cash boxes. I looked around the tables and then as I was about to leave I smiled at her and said, I was looking for pocket knives but I guess you don't have any...thanks anyway. She smiled and said ...yes I do ...I keep them next to me...right here. I approached her and she pointed to a box on her desk with about 5 pocket knives in little baggies. Gold. Two sweet old patina jewels were staring right at me. The other an old boy scout knife...turned out with a broken blade...The other an old Victorinox...well worn...too worn...and a multi-tool...old...worn...but too big for my taste. I zeroed in on the two jewels...I opened every blade...yes...sweet...patina...jewels...I'll take them.
Then next stop turned up no knives but some great conversation with a wonderful gentleman who collects knives as well.
My next stop...I parked and walked up to what looked like a promising sale. Lots of jewerly display cases....looks good I said under my breath...getting the rush of anticipation. I approached a lady and asked..any possiblity of a pocket knife or two...she thought for a second and said, I have an old thing back here in the garage in a box..kinda a knife...wanna look. Sure I said. We walked back in the garage and she handed me an antique looking box. It read...Northfield Cutlery Co. NORTHFIELD. CONN. UN-X-LD. No.....way....oh and she threw in a machete too...
The Case XX peanut is sweet...I love it. Dont know what the scales are made of...maybe delrin or ebony. I need to do a little more research...it said on my baggie...1970's. Thr other jigged bone has no makers mark but its sweet and I believe to be a cattleman jack.
The straight razor is sweet and is razor sharp.
What a sweet way to spend the morning. Spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning and sharpening. Pocket worn and sharp...what more could you ask for...I am grateful.
