garbage to gold, the beginning

Excellent thread this is !

To be honest, I too was a bit suprised to see these knives being bought by our military.

allright brothers, here is the first batch... with an hrc average of 60. i decided to add some flair to these babies with use of duracoat and an airbrush. the hardware is not damaged i painted it black and white to match the blades and handles. the scales are black and tan g-10. as for the ti frame, i beadblasted them and they turned out perfect. the fire had little effect on the ti.

i think they turned out awesome. the action is better than perfect. firm lockup on all the knives with smooth easy opening. you can flick them open effortlessly.

id like to thank all the parties who were involved in this undertaking, it was a hoot! and im sure these babies will hit the exchange in short order...with a price low enough to impress anyone ;)

Holy Guacamole!!! I had to go back and triple check when this thread started! It hasn't even been a day!

Very nice!

Fantastic job giving those Striders new life Peter!
In my opinion they look better than new with your scales and spacers.

strider didnt want them. they were very rude with all my questions and told me right out they didnt send out parts. finally when i told them the story behind the knives, they said they would ship me what i needed....i never got anything they said they were shipping.

That right there is a huge let down and a sad state of affairs. You'd think the company would atleast investigate to see whether or not you were being straight up (no doubts here at all). Then when they were satisfied they would follow through. How very unfortunate and truly disappointing.
However, the bright side to the rude treatment is a beautiful revival of a great knife. Did the Marine want the blades back or what? I must say that they look terrific. Excellent work Peter

O_O Those poor SMFs......that really sucks, I hope you can salvage most or all of them. As a company it would be hard to warranty knives that have been in a fire, but judging by the fact that they were military use.....you would THINK they could do SOMETHING.

The first three look excellent! The only thing missing is the warranty, but heck those are some really nice looking knives.

i put them up in the exchange. but there all gone allready :) ill have more early next week.

Wow, that was fast. I was going to suggest rounding off the scales good so they are at least more comfortable. I've always thought Strider had some of the most uncomfortable, unergonomic handles out there.

Those look better than factory. Good on you.

great job brother.

i saw these when it happened on another forum.

way to resurrect them! ;)
