Judy,
While these gents have made some excellent suggestions, I recently acquired my thigh blade and garter sheath at the last NCCA show in Marlborogh MA. You might be interested in the design I chose and the sheath I designed with Chris Kravitt from Treestump Leather.
The blade is handmade by Lamont Coombs and is what he terms a "fighter/boot knife". Fixed blade, clip point, with a graceful sway and swell. Very sexy, in my humble opinion. While I do use the blade and wanted it to be pracitcal and legal for carry, I also wanted it to have a certain uh...let's see...sensuality? The handle is black Buffalo horn.
The sheath, is quite a work of art. I came across a desgin of Chris's that has a black leather, laced-up wrap, much like a little corset. I thought, "Oh yeah! That's my garter sheath. Now for the blade..." Originally, I envisioned a black leather-belt strap with a buckle closure, but Chris pointed out that it wouldn't flex with movement and so, was not likely stay up. Damn! So much for effect. I still wanted tooled leather for the thigh strap and my husband suggested we attach it to elastic with a velcro closure. That way measurements wouldn't have to be exact, and there would be enough give to work with movement.
The real artistry though, is in Chris's tooling and the design he cut for the thigh strap. Sweeping and curvaceous, with a simplicity, subtly and grace that is truly inspired.
Yeah, I love it. Its one of my most treasured possessions.

Have fun in your quest. I had a blast dreaming up mine and then anitcipating its arrival. I acutally thought seeing it for real would not be as exciting as the anticipation, but I was sooooooo wrong!
Next on the list: twin throwing knives with matching arm band sheaths. oooo baby! watch out!
