Garter Belt Knife

Hey Tim,
biggrin.gif
.........LOL..........Revealex?
biggrin.gif

I was stuck on the "Bushmaster" model until I saw the "Stockingsnipe".
Dammmmnnnn!!!!

Also, I couldn't help noticing that "Apogeeboot" is sporting a little more steel than the knife!!

Judy,
I'm going to have to agree with you on two things:
1. Silk stockings just don't look good with tears/holes in them.
2. Those sure were nice pics!!!
smile.gif

I'm just waiting for the BFC PC police to show up on this one!

Hey guys, don't be mad when it happens. They're just doing their job (and I'm using the word job loosely here since I don't believe that they're getting paid.......unless you count their nice little 1SKS Xmas bonus/gift
wink.gif
)

Well, I'm off now to hop on back to Tim's link.

Judy,
I just wanted to let you know that I'm still searching for the previous post/thread that had the picture of one of our fellow forumite's wife wearing her new garter belt knife.

It's puzzling the hell out of me because I now that it was in the old "Blade Discussion Forum - Archive 3" but I can't find it because I don't know the subject exactly (something to do with wife carrying knives) or who posted the thread.

I WILL find it!!

I now have a new mission.

Judy,

Forget the laws! A small fixed blade is what you want! It's already open as you pull it out. How sweet!! If the police have their hands where you are going to keep that knife, you are already in big trouble!!! (How many times, walking down the street or in your office, have you been body searched??)

Don't listen to these Big Brother types: Carry a knife that works best for you!!!

hi Judy...

you may not know me, but i've been on the forum for a while (not lately, back surgery three weeks ago, so can't be at the computer much), but i'm a native american gal too, and a forum friend sent me your post
smile.gif
i also live in CA so the fixed blade thing is a definite problem; although, like you, i really want one--i'm looking for one to wear with my powwow outfit because if i'm careful and only wear it while dancing i think that won't get me in trouble
smile.gif
but so far, i have not found The Right Knife for that purpose.

however, i love folders, am addicted to them, so here are some really quick suggestions, just without thinking much, off the top of my head:

William Henry: absolutely gorgeous knives. sizes range from tiny to large, beautiful handles, sharp blades, superb workmanship, some with clips, some not. i have a lovely small pearl-handled one that i adore; there is also a carbon-fiber handled model that i lust after. there are others with wood inlay as well. all these knives are sweet to use, lovely in the hand, and in my opinion, they fit my heritage's requirement that a tool be beautiful so as to be respectful of the earth from which it is made (i'm three mountains band from british columbia). i use my william henry in ritual blessings all the time. (hope that doesn't offend the makers or anyone, it's my way of saying "this knife is SPECIAL!")

another suggestion, which comes to mind only because i just got one for christmas: one of the new limited edition Spyderco Natives, the CPM 440V's with the inlaid handles. i got the blue mother-of-pearl mosaic handle and i'm in love
smile.gif
-- it's in my bathrobe pocket right now as i type this, been using it all day to deal with gifts and tags and all sorts of christmas-y things!

third suggestion, if you have the money: a chris reeve
smile.gif
smile.gif
-- the umfaans are very small and manageable, the small sebenzas are a dream, and you can get fancy things like etched handles and damascus blades if you have the money.

any of the above would be very lightweight, and easy to make a carrypouch which would fit on your garter. wish i had time to look at those pics in the posts above--maybe tomorrow
smile.gif

sorry i'm not giving you URLs and pictures, as i say, my computer time is limited and the above are easy to find on the net and in stores.

(i don't know where you are, but all of the above can be gotten through Dennis Wright of Wright Knives in San Diego, he's a pleasure to deal with--tell him silverwing sent you--oh, and he does mail order!)

if i think of more ideas, as i probably will, i will write again, but my computer time is up for now, time to lie down again. back surgery sucks. but at least i have a beautiful new knife (yes, everyone, Carl gave it to me, duhhhhh) to play with
smile.gif

may the warmth and light of the season fill your days,
silverwing

PS everyone: sorry i've been so absent from the forum, i've missed y'all, i just have to be really careful and heal up so i can get back to botherin' you guys again! LOL

Hi Judy. I used to make"originals" that were sold in Shops in New Orleans French Quarter (SHHHHHHH) They were usually small daggers or clip points with various handles. A lot of then were actually made with old antique parasol handles from ivory and other cool stuff. They had small leather sheaths that were more scabbard like, to wear stuck in the garteritself. These were the garters that were around the top of the stocking, not the belt type of more modern times. Have fun...lol

silverwing!
Sorry to hear about your back problems. Hope your surgery was a success. Please take care of yourself and get well soon so you can come back and grace the forum with your great wit and wonderful posts!

Judy,
Silverwing knows her stuff. I think you may be kindred spirits.

BTW, if you gals (is that the right word?
wink.gif
) know any more women who are interested in knives (or might be interested in knives), please send them here. BF is surely in need of more women to liven the place up. I realize it takes a certain kind of woman to persevere here due to some of the testosterone-laden posts but you gals have had some great threads. Would love to see more of it. As you and Lorena Bobbit know so well, knives aren't just for guys.

To Silverwing, this has not been a good year for you, here's hoping all your troubles are behind you (No pun intended). Get well soon you are missed here.
To you and Carl your HHBL a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous and HEALTY New Year.

Phil

Totally Judy,

Have you decided on your carry option...clip it to something..clip a sheath to something...custom rig?

silverwing,

I am pretty new here..but welcome back.

I agree with Hoodoo...

Gene.........You found it!!!

Thanks!!!!

Now I can go and read some of these other posts.
This was driving me crazy.

Hey Judy,
What do you think of the one pictured in Gene's posted link?

--The Raptor--

It's a nice looking knife. And it looks excellent on Mrs. Brian Turner's leg. I like the blade - not crazy about the handle. But that's just my opinion. Maybe it is the color. I'm a "purple" person and if I had a fixed knife made, I would probably want a handle in some shade of pink or purple. Hey, everyone has their preferences! But if it was purple(ish) - it would be a definite "Totally Judy" identifiable knife.

Don't get me wrong, I've seen some beautiful knives since I've been a member of BFC - and I think only one was purple(ish). And I don't mean that my knife collection will consist of all purple(ish) knives! Maybe there will be no purple.

An example - in the Cutlery catalog my boss lent me - in the back there were some walking sticks - one was made of a wood called "Purple Heart" - I think I am going to get one. So I am not talking just some artificial disgusting purple color - because there are natural purple woods out there.

Wow. This is going to require as much, if not more, research and brain strain. But I couldn't have even gotten this far without the KnifeKnuts!

You like purple, huh? Well, there is only one answer for you then.....

Darrel Ralph does really beautiful work, and he does TONS of blues and purples... Awesome maker, and a great person!

You can check his site out at: http://www.darrelralph.com/ if you would like to see more of his work...

Awesome! I love it. I will definitely have to check out his work. It's nice to know that I am not the only one who likes purple!

TJ,

Purple it is. This is a John Salley Stilletto,I had made in the early '90's. The
grind is flawless from a piece of 1/4" ATS34.
Handle is Titanium colored a deep purple.
11 1/2" OAL.

Totally Judy; I must admit to being somewhat mystified by your post. In my opinion, anyone wearing a garter belt in the Mojave Desert would almost certainly have self defense as the LAST thing on her mind!
wink.gif

However, since you did ask, let me submit some knives for your consideration:

First, 'Spiders 'n Snakes' by Ed Caffrey; so named for the pattern of the Damascus blade Ed forged. 7" OAL, 3.5" blade length. Paua shell handle, but since it is a custom, Ed could put any thing you wanted on it.

</A>

Second, two knives made by Kit Carson. Talonite (r) blade lengths 3" and 4"; Corion (r) handles. As you probably know, Corion is usually used for counter tops, and comes in a variety of colors; you would probably be able to find something suitable. Further, the Talonite is totally corrosion proof, and stays sharp a LONG time. As an added bonus, these are designed to be paring knives, so wouldn't languish unused when you were without your garter belt.

Hi Judy -

Here's the knife that Dale Reif made for my wife to carry:

<CENTER>Dale Reif Garter Dagger

Here's my wife wearing it in the snakeskin garter sheath made by Gary Bradburn:

<A HREF="http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=207576&a=1529406&p=27524728"> <IMG SRC="http://albums.photopoint.com/j/Thumbnail?u=207576&a=1529406&p=27524728&Width=100&Height=100&Sequence=0"border="3"> </A></CENTER>

We learned a lot while we designed and built the system. Do yourself a favor and benefit from our experience - there are a lot of factors that can make a garter dagger uncomfortable/unwearable!

There's another custom maker who will be coming out with a his/hers set in the very near future that's going to be verrry special. Drop me a note off line and I'll put you in touch!

Hi Judy,
After reading your other post about your Cricket purchase, I got to thinking about HHBL and whether or not he new that you were looking into a garter belt knife project/purchase.

If so, what was his reaction to this one??

If not, you're secret is safe with me!!
smile.gif

--The Raptor--

Raptor,

Well.....Um-m-m-m--m....... no, he doesn't have any idea I'm looking into the garter belt knife. I didn't even tell him when I talked to him tonight while driving back from San Diego that I bought the Cricket - he was busy telling me about a phone call from his brother, so I didn't interrupt him with my new purchase.

And to be honest...I'm not even thinking about HHBL when I am considering these knives and/or the garter belt. These are for ME - Totally Judy. It doesn't really make any difference whether I decide to tell him or not. He is my HHBL and My Sexiest Man in the World. But I am still an independent, self-sufficient, don't-EVER-tell-me-what-to-do-woman.

I survived and escaped from an abusive marriage. A lot of emotional/mental scars - the bruises healed! So, I tend to over compensate in my independence and self sufficiency and depending on no one but myself and especially extra cautious about setting up barricades when it comes to relationships with men. I LOVE men.... just can't let them get too emotionally close. Except for HHBL.

More than you wanted to know... But Yes, I will tell HHBL about my quest for the garter belt knife. I might even let him buy it for me for my birthday if he's been good! It's the very least I could let him do for me. tee hee hee.....

judy

And lucky for me.... HHBL loves me just the way I am and as long as I am happy doing whatever it is that makes me happy - he is just fine with it. (that's what he says anyway..... I dont' believe him!)

I personally feel (without obviously knowing either of you) that you have a great relationship.

I'm sure that HHBL will understand (possibly even enjoy) you're new found interest.
I know I would!!!
I keep showing these posts to my wife.
smile.gif

I'm laying down some serious groundwork (major hinting) on a garter knife project as well. I'm not sure if it's working or not, but it never hurts to tell your spouse about your interests.
Hell, I'm always dropping hints on different knives that I'm interested in. She's pretty good about logging that info away for future potential presents.
smile.gif

I just found RMJforges today on the net, soooooo, know I've got to hint about a custom tomahawk now too.
