Busse, Swamprat and Scrapyard are good people.
I remember once, I thought I was going to need warranty help. The though only lasted a few seconds. I accidentally chopped a small stone in half with my old FBMLE. It had a thinned edge. I was really wailing on some fatwood in a big block. It was just bouncing my axe, so I figured the thinner keener FBMLE and a mallet and very heavy baton would get it done.
It did, then I heard that horrible sound (TINK) I looked at the chopping block and saw a small stone cut in half. I looked at the edge, and there was almost no markings. Just a little misaligned section. I got a screw driver and steeled it back, and kept going. My older brother told me "once you bend the steel like that it is gone. That section of edge will just bend again and tear out."
I finished the batonning, and chopping.
Years later, I sold that knife after a lot more use, and never had any issues. I have done that same thing with other knives, some very pricey, and had to spend hours and hours and hours re-profiling by hand to fix the edge damage.
