Bandit, I(degreed engineer) won't waste any time by looking at any of these devices. They are 'VOODO SCIENCE' and are only designed to make a buck off pseudo scientific junk. For 30 years I have seeing this type of thing. The only thing that will work is when the price of gasoline becomes so high the public will mandate fuel efficient vehicles. -Dick

Brock,

My wife purchased the Toyota Prius because the Honda was not a practicle vehicle, 2 seater. If the Honda Civic hybrid had been out as it is now she would have gotten it. As it is the Prius has performed flawlessly for 4 months with no problems and has gotten 45 mpg consistently. That said, a european style deisel will get the same milage with well established technology and an expected engine life in the 100s of thousands of miles. The trade then becomes cleaner newer technology for dirtier mature technology.

As an aside, if the hybrid is purchased for business, as my wife did, the vehicle is granted TRIPPLE depreciation under current tax regs and can nearly pay for itself in taxes in under 3 years.

When I was younger I did play with different fuel additives and found I could get about 3 to 5 miles more per gallon of gas. It even seemed to give me a few more HP. Then I did the math and realized I was paying about 10 times the price of gas I saved for the additive. I found the cheapest way to save money was to drive less and more conservatively.

As far as what car to get I think we are leaning towards the Jetta wagon TDI, just for the space. Funny how being practical always seems to change your mind.
