Gathering - Saturday August 2nd!

good to hear much fun was had - I started the day leaving hone at 8:45 to go help a buddy load a moving van - then went to work, then went grocery shopping.
got home at 8:45....... just finished dinner, and now am having a beer.
hopefully I'll sleep well tonight, since I have a pretty full day tomorrow as well.

Thanks to John and Bob for a great time!

We got to see Mack's modified Sharpfinger - this is not my finger, not sure who's it is...

Cool blade.

John had his Iris on display, love that white micarta. Very classy.

I picked up my first JK in stainless steel - a "dot knife" (the tin knife second from left) and my JK Chef's Knife, which I then put to use in cutting up my lettuce and tomato for my Bloody Mary for the competition.

John was rightfully very proud of his new heat treat oven - very nice!

My bloody mary entries for the judges (Mr K and Cooper) - I brought the bacon and made a Bacon Lettuce and Tomato Bloody Mary - which included a bleu cheese stuffed olive, applewood smoked bacon, a slice of tomato and romaine lettuce leaf, finished with a spicy dill pickle spear.

Here are the three entries, from left to right - Outdoorsfan's Bloody Sogetsu, Uncle Bills Habanero Mary, and mqqn's BMLT.

And the winner was.....MINE! I love the Nesmuck, and darkmatter is going to make one of his outstanding sheaths for it - I am excited to see what he comes up with (thanks John, hope I did not put you on the spot, but it is your fault for bringing all of those great buck and fixed knife sheaths!)

Afterwards we sat around and discussed knives and John cooked up some hot dogs, and Bob's lovely wife made us some outstanding potato salad - you know a good potato salad when you can see the bacon on it and it has hard boiled egg slices on the top - yum!!

One reason you might want to visit a JK Gathering is that John , always the proud father, will do a spa treatment on your knives! Here he is with the XD XM

And then he touched up DBH-1 for me -

Thanks John!!

We got to meet John's Beagle - and the other dogs were left inside in the air conditioning. They did not complain.

Good times - we had some fun and checked out a few knives on a perfect weather day in Mokena!

Thanks again to all who attended and thanks to Coop for the dip!

Here was the knife John generously made and gave away as the prize for the best bloody mary - it is a great knife!

John also had a nice aluminum kubaton that he made that included a titanium pocket clip - he is thinking of making these for his customers - I encouraged that!

Nice photos, great prize knife and now I need a BLTBM for breakfast! :)

What's not to love - a sunny day, a good gang of folks, a drink that satisfies 3 or 4 basic food group requirements (with lots of veggies):D,
and handmade knives in the knife making shop .

That Nesmuck has to be one of the most unphotogenic knives. It always looks greatly distorted in photos, but I think I would really like it in hand. Hope to see a real version some day. A great Win!

Thanks for hosting the gathering John, I had a great time. John's stainless knives are going to excellent addition to his knife line up. Thanks Andy for showing your Z.T. collection, I learned a lot about the construction of folders. Andy I have just about completed the sheath pattern for the Nesmuck and will order some dye. I have a good idea for the design and hope you'll like it. I enjoyed sharing knife stories with everyone.

Looks like a fun time was had. Congrats on the win Mr Mqqn.
I hope you guys actually cut some things with my knife. I'd like to know that it works as designed. I know the craftsmanship is there but the designer is suspect.

Thanks for the pics Andy and congrats on the win.

Thanks Mykel - one of these days you and Mack will have to make a gathering....

Wow - you are fast! No hurry - remember, a good leather bender takes 6 months to make a sheath lol ... Thanks buddy!

Thanks Mack - I did fondle your knife, but we did not use it to cut anything; I had just taken ownership of my new Chef's Knife, so I used that instead.

Your design is cool and with the curve of the spine, I am sure you can get a lot of leverage on the tip!

Congrats Andy.

Looks like a good time, I'll have to plan another trip around a "gathering" sometime.

The anniversary knife arrived today. From Karen's reaction, I must assume it is really nice. She was seriously impressed with your workmanship, John.
I hope to get home and put it to use soon.
