Gator Hunting

Croc.jpg

That is one ugly SOB worthy of being hunted with a 308, hell maybe even a 375 H&H just to be sure, screw the 22. Definitely have to keep a MOAB on you for back up.

Really, my biggest complaint about the show is the slow motion clips they use for effect. The rifles in the clip most of the time don't match up with the rifles they're using at the time to shoot the gator. Those clips are pre recorded and thrown in, but you'd think they could match up the rifle.

It's a great show and a real slice of American pie, love their accents, that creole southern twang, and the never give up atitude, just a whole bunch of red neckin fun!

I would love to go gator hunting. It would have to be like the Gator boys do it. Bare hands.

I think Porkerson Moonlights at it ? :) goes by Clint Landry on the show.

Swamp Rat...........Swamp People..............Hmmmm Interesting yes ?

That's a good pic Andy. Looks like he's been around the place for a while. I love/hate that feeling you get when you're motoring up an estuary in a dingy and you see a croc slide into the water that's twice as big as your boat.

Chris.
....yes mate, something about a lizard that is bigger than the vessel you are in to put it all in perspective. See this guy flat on the river I am guessing he was about 5 metres long. Saw LOTS of 4 metre plus salties last time I was up there. I lived out at Daley River in the mid 80s for a few months and a 3 + metre lizard was unusual then. They are doing well no doubt..!!! Saw a 4.5m scare the bejesus out of some kids on Cahill's Crossing... they were spear and net fishing and he just popped up right next to them ....talk about walk on water..!!!!

Rednecks and Cajuns are two different breeds as are Creoles and Cajuns.

I lived in Louisiana for more than sixty years. Believe me.

I'll watch it from time to time. Pretty entertaining. I like Glen and Mitchell the two brothers. Them's some good ole boys and they crack me up!!!

What gets me is that theres only 1 group that looks like they take care of their guns - RJ and J Paul

the crew that cracks me up the most is the crew with kid rock...

I used to bass fish down in the St Johns river and in lakes in central Florida and in lake George, it is a gator preserve but also a great bass lake. You can't hunt them but you can protect your self from unprovoked and uninvited guests coming in your boat. I always had my 12 ga pump right by my console and stoked with triple ought buck followed by a rifled hollowpoint 12 ga slug and then back to 000 buck. Little did I know I could just have taken a .22 cal revolver but I didn't know about that quarter sized spot behind their noggin. The gators will be impeded by all that fecal matter that will be there when they try to get in my boat.

I know Cajuns and rednecks are different types of folks by the way they walk talk and cook, but Creoles, are they more old school French/European style or? Can you clarify that I'm dying to know!

Yeah, pretty sure most of the guns on that show haven't seen oil or cleaning solution since the late 80s. And they always either run out of ammo or forget the guns completely . If I was going out into the swamp to kill gators I would be pretty darn sure I had guns and ammo before I ever got on a boat.

This thread reminds me of a pic I saw a few weeks back of a Crocodile that was shot in Northern Zimbabwe on the Zambezi ... near the border with Mozambique ... it was shot by a Ranger because it was killing too many Cows belonging to local villagers ... it is around 16 feet or 4.8 metres ... definately not something you want to be "under-gunned" with ... most of the Rangers carry .458 Lott CZ's in Zimbabwe ... mainly for Elephant's ... but I bet he was glad he was issued an Elephant rifle when he had to sort this one out ...;)
