Gave my brother his choice of knife around $150

He's got a Wave and a few SAKs, but he gets a thrill out of the one-handers, like a lot of us.
You can't get much better than a Wave. It is my "go to" multi-tool at work because of the diamond file. If I had to only carry a MT and nothing else, the Wave would be my MT of choice. However, as good as the Wave can be, both of my my Gerber MP600s and MP400 see more use. When I am wet, cold and tired, I find the Gerbers are much easier to use. I just wish they were of equal quality to the Wave.

As for one handers? You can keep OTFs, Autos and Assisted Opening knives. Just give me a good simple modern folder that I can open with one hand.

My favorite one hander is a fixed blade. Sometimes things get used more when they entertain us. The matching knives is a Great way to get him in. Baby steps.

I gave him the knife yesterday. He really likes it.

The body and scale are cast aluminum. The body feels great, but the scale isn't a great fit to the body: it stands proud of the body at the seam by at least 1/16". The action is great though.

Yay! I hope every mick, kraut, dago and colored fella enjoys seeing him with that dago knife. Way to go!

As long as he likes it is really all that matters. Its like cars. Some people can go with a toyota corrola and some a Lexus es350. I'll take a 05 Tahoe z71 with ls1. Different strokes for different folks.

He helped you, you got him a thank you that he will enjoy. Seems like a great outcome. You can enjoy things just for the neat/cool factor. There is a reason Ferraris are reall sought after despite there being faster, cheaper and more reliable cars (made in Italy too....:D)
Uh...sorry to hijack the thread but what kind of (production) cars are faster and also made in Italy? Lamborghini? I think not....check out the LaFerrari

I should have clarified that the "also made in Italy" was in reference to the knife, both Ferrari and the knife are italian made and more about style than performance compared to the competition.
It speaks volumes that Ferrari repeatedly refused to try and set official records, imposes restrictions for reviews and manipulated cars for reporters to perform better. Which doesn't take anything from their style in most models. Hope that clarifies. :)

Good point, I think they are a little worried on a given day another car might outperform them...wish they would allow motor trend or C/D to do comparisons like they did 10-15yrs ago.

If someone isn't a "knife person" they will normally choose a knife based strictly on aesthetics. Give them a choice between a plain looking knife made from premium materials and a flashy knife made from whatever and they will choose the cheaper one. If he's happy with it you did good. I've given knives as gifts to my family members for years and other than my son never seen them using them. I gave my niece's fiance a low end Kershaw earlier this year and he's had it in his pocket every time I've seen him since. To each his own......

If I am going to buy someone a knife, unless they specifically come to me with a wish list (which never happens. I'm the one giving people MY list), I usually choose what I think would be best for them. I usually try to buy them something that they wouldn't buy for themselves. Stretch their comfort zone.

I could not agree more. Unfortunately a by product of the tactical knife craze is that everyone wants something they saw in a Jason Bourne movie.
Forget a good reliable knife that you will use every day and will serve you well..........Lets rather buy something totally impractical but good for use against ninja zombies......

I have a serious knife collection with a multitude of edc knives, but my $20-00 Yellow Delrin Case peanut does 90% of all the work.........go figure!;)

Reading comprehension isn't your strong point, I see. I thought we were made of sterner stuff, around here.

Hint: I quoted my brother, who remembers my grandpa using such slurs. Back in the day, the immigrants all had names for each other: micks, krauts, dagos, colored fellas. All in good fun, no one was offended. Now we're to the point where it's not even me talking about you, not even someone you know talking about someone else, and yet you're still offended? If you're that thin-skinned, I feel sorry for you, as you've no doubt had a hard life.
Yea I saw some silly replies and thought about my brothers/sisters and our back and forth ribbing, way worse than dago. We grew up just fine. If some here didn't have a fun childhood with their siblings that's a shame. Political correctness sucks, the prim and proper are usually hiding the most in their closets. Good on you for getting what he wanted it may move him to getting into collecting.
