Don't know about the rest of you but I am ready to move on from COVID issues in a BIG way! Sure hopeful that normal living is just ahead, so let's celebrate the New Year with a BIG bang. This GAW is open to all porch members who contribute in the various threads on the Porch (not all of them but at least a few of them) - and its open to our overseas Porch members too. Let's just say you had to take part in at least 15 postings in a few threads prior to today, to chat about knives. To enter just tell us what you hope to do this coming year or where you want to visit this coming year that COVID has hampered or stopped you from doing this year. Knives (of course) and/or pictures of what you want to do, or where you want to go are always interesting and wanted. I'll pick a number on Monday (so you can party all weekend and not wake up too late to enter) - I'm gonna use a random number generator to pick the winner. Oh yeah, you read all this verbiage and no items have been offered yet - let's CUT to the chase (that's a Dad joke for fellow knife knuts). I'm giving away your choice of two BIG knives to coincide with my BIG hopes. More about then in the next post. HAPPY NEW YEAR! OH

First choice, a Schrade USA made Old Timer bear hunter's knife, the venerable 15OT. You need to know this isn't a new knife at all - I bought it 6 or 7 years ago in a pawnshop, it was dull as a butterknife and was missing the OLD TIMER shield, but it had the original sheath. I bought it and headed to the next town where I was staying over, went to Harbor Freight and bought a course Norton stone and some honing oil, spent the rest of the evening in my hotel room rebuilding the edge and watching college basketball. Had a good edge on it by the time I left the next morning, worked on it some more at home later. My friend Dale Orvet sent me a shield for the knife which I glued on with two-part epoxy and a clamp - it's there for good now. I used it to skin and clean one whitetail - more knife than a hunter needs east of the Mississippi for sure, but it's cool and it's BIG!

Second choice is also BIG, an extra large Schrade Stockman, the 858 Lumberjack. It's even bigger than a Buck 307 Wrangler or a Case 6375 Stockman - shown here with a Schrade 8OT for size comparison. I've got no story to go with this knife, it's NOS I bought to add to my Schrade collection, but it's way above my carry preference, so it lives in a cardboard box with other knives I don't carry. By the way, if for some reason your country, state, or city will not allow either of these knives I have another NOS Schrade of urban proportions I'll send you. Enter if you'd like. OH

I'm in for the 858OT, if I qualify. Never hurt to have a spare/backup, right? 🙂
IMHO at 4 9/16 inch closed, it be daRn near ideal size for a Stockman. Not "too big" nor "too small" for loose in the bottom of front pocket carry.

Where I'd like to go in 2022 ... to a store or restaurant would be nice ... or even the shootin' range 1.8 miles away. I'm pretty sure I could reach it and home again pedaling my adult trike.

However, I don't see Gov'ner Little lifting his 23 month old (come January) and counting Assisted Living Covids lockdown in 2022, especially not with latest and greatest version that recently raised its nasty head, and is "spreading like wildfire".

Knife content ... no pictures on my phone (wi-fi died earlier today. I suspect it be to cold for for it. Always goes away when it get much below frozen. :( No knife pictures on my phone, and a mite bit dark to take any.

They fixed the Internet, so I can post a picture.
Anyway, I think I'll start 2022 with a vintage 858OT and a Northfield UN-X-LD 842211 Harness Jack in my pocket, Anna Celtic neck knife.

Good luck to all that enter, and thanks for the chance.

Count me in, Bruce! Very cool GAW! I’m looking forward to not hearing about Covid every time I turn on the tv or radio. It’s exhausting! I am also looking forward to going to live concerts and football games again without fear of getting sick or bringing something back and infecting family/friends. My wife works in a middle school, and she is constantly bombarded with covid cases from students and teachers, so I’m looking forward to some stress off of her shoulders. I think we can all use a break from it.

That stockman looks super nice. The threaded bolsters really make it pop in my opinion. I had to look up the specs on that one, WOW, it is a big one…

This coming year I’m really hoping to make our annual fishing trips to Canada. We have been unable to go the last two years because of the border closure due to Covid. That isn’t a complaint on Canada’s rules but I do miss going every year. This coming year sounds promising though. 🤞

Here’s a few photos from my trips to keep things interesting.

*Not an entry*

Man oh man do I love to see these types of threads. Restores faith in humanity it does. Very generous...a characteristic in short supply nowadays.

For 2021, I would like to see hope on our youth's faces. So many kids being denied so many things we all got to experience in our childhoods. They are growing up in a strange time, and as such, are missing out on so much.

My heart goes out to them. I pray they may experience just a few of those joys they are denied now.

Not an entry, but my hope for 2022 is to finally get to take my kids to Disneyland. The plan (in the works since 2017) had been to make a big trip to Disney World for my 40th birthday in 2020.

Obviously COVID ruined those plans, so smaller plans were made for Disneyland for my 41st. Delta scuttled those.

We are making plans again for 2022. Once my son is old enough to get vaccinated we are planning to go for it. Fingers crossed.

I would really love to partake if valid and interested in the old timer stockman. I have been thinking of stockman knives but haven't picked up one yet. I have donwsized my collection to few selected knives but one could always use stockman for sure!

As for my coming year plans... propably just going to stay in my country. Maybe a visit to Lapland and to the nature. To be honest I would be just super happy and satisfied by some nature time and heath for all my loved ones.

Great giveaway Bruce :) Not an entry from me please, but I appreciate you including overseas members, and I'm really enjoying reading everyone's posts :)

I'm looking forward to being able to get around again, and being able to visit friends I haven't seen in a couple of years. Wishing everyone a very happy 2022

Not an entry for me, I've been way too lucky lately.
I am mostly tired of all the political back-and-forth with COVID.
I never thought that wearing a mask would become a political hotbed.
I personally think that wearing a mask in public is far better than being locked down.
Can't wait for all our schools to go back to normal and I can better interact with my students.

This is my empty classroom as I meet with my students virtually. :(

If I may, I’d like my entry to go to glocktenman glocktenman for his generosity.

I’ve been sitting on one of those timeshare deals where you get really cheap hotel rates to listen to a sales pitch to buy a timeshare (I’m not sure why they offer them to people like me because I can only refuse any deal they think is enticing—I’m in it for the cheap hotel rate only). It has been a couple of years of the four-year time limit and I have been hoping to use it once Covid restrictions lessen and I have had time to save up for the part of the trip that isn’t a deal. 2022 looks promising!

Thanks for the GAW and here’s to hoping everyone having a (relatively) COVID-free life in 2022.
