GAW - A BIG Happy New Year 2022 - Winner chosen.

I work in Alt Ed, so most every one of my students say the same thing.
They all struggle and have a fear of Algebra... but I fix them and they do just fine. :)
I think my problem is "dyslexia" or some such thing.
I remember a college remedial algebra test question. (Why. I HAD to take a math course when my major was auto body repair, I have no idea) Question was: "8-x=20"
My (allegedly) wrong answer: "Impossible. That would be like going to the store with $8, speed some of it, get the item and have $20 walking out the door."

HOW did that +8 become a -8?!? Two negatives equal a positive. (tho you can't have the bank combine two maxed out credit cards or two overdrawn Chequing accounts combineded into one account and have money in the bank. Say 2 chequing accounts at -$350 and -$450, combined giving you $800 to the good in the new account.
HOW did that +8 become -8? The "instructor" never did explain that.
Worst instructor (any subject) I've ever had. When she asked "Does everyone understand that?" If one person in the class raised their hand, she moved on to something else.

This gave me something to reflect on a bit. There are so many things that I miss being able to do that I haven't been able to the last couple of years.

The first thing that comes to mind is the Oregon Knife Show. It has been cancelled the last couple of years and it has been hugely disappointing not being able to attend. It is the place where I have been able to meet Charlie and Barry in the past, as well as some other folks from here and it really would be good to visit with them all again.

Another thing I greatly miss is being able to do my weekly meetup with my buddies at the pub. It's easy to think you can become a hermit, shutting yourself out from the rest of the world, but when you really think about those social exchanges, it begins to set in regarding how valuable they are and how taken for granted they had become.

Here's to a happier New Year!

I'd like to enter for A.L. so he can try a stockman, my favorite pattern. We are fortunate to have a very strong and discerning governor here in Florida, so the Covid pandemic hasn't been too bad for us. I only have to wear a mask at the doctor's office, and everything is open. My Covid related hopes are that people see through all the fear mongering and deception and just live their lives, normally. And I pray constantly for the children, who are now under attack like they never have been before in our 200+ year history.

For knife content, here is a favorite stockman of mine.

For me 2021 has been rough. I hope that 2022 brings me two new hips, lol. Too much football (10 years), lacrosse (7 years) and crawling around underground trashed my cartilage in both. I hope to have the replacements done before what I'm looking forward to in 2022. Two weeks in the Outerbanks. Here are some over OBX knife pics for your knife viewing pleasure....

I’d be in for that stockman, always a useful pattern and one I’d love to carry! I hope this next year, above all else- starts to see the country get back to normal and less divisive. I think the ongoing panic that continues to stress people of all walks of life has taken its toll on the wonders of traveling. I hope to go on a few road trips to new places, and I hope that we can all calm down enough to truly enjoy these experiences again!

Thanks for the chance, here’s a pic of the most memorable part of our last road trip!

Most generous giveaway Bruce. I'm most looking forward to being able to travel and visit my family out west that I have not been able to see in the past two years due to COVID. Please count my entry on behalf of Sharp & Fiery Sharp & Fiery and send to him if chosen.

Knife content (at one of my favorite places).

Not an entry,

I agree that this covid stuff needs to end. With everyone constantly talking about it, I'm not sure I see the end coming. We just won't let go.
We made a long family road trip to New Mexico this year, which was nice. I hope to do more of them. Probably a trip to Florida and Delaware all to visit family. we live in the Pacific NW and family is everywhere but here.

Thank you for thinking of me, Jeremy! 😎

I hope you can make the trip west soon. It’s been tough these last couple years.

Good luck to all participants. :)

I have been meaning to pop in here and say a massive Thank you OH, What I am looking forward to is getting over to the States again and meeting up with my friends and head on down to Oregon Knife Show, so that will be amazing, with my Country ( New Zealand, exiting will be kind of easy, but getting back in will be extremely difficult, so its not going to be until a good Year and a half perhaps two years that I am there for this.
I miss my mates, and really want to get down to the Show- a really good mixture of excellent friends and company and of course a huge amount of Knives!

I think the Covid issues will be with us for quite some time yet no matter where we are situated in the World, Vaccination will be the way so that the Virus has a harder time existing- but I had better be careful because to some this is a Political issue / debate and by no means want to start a conversation like this.
I wont enter even though those Knives you are putting up I love to bits, I am really fortunate to have been gifted many Knives by many people.

Again - Thank you OH, I hope the New Year treats you and everyone else very kindly, good luck to everyone entering this Great Give-away! :)

Not an entry for me, but in 2022 I hope nothing else for my kids gets canceled due to COVID. We’ve missed two trips to visit family and even had Hamlet canceled while we were already siting in our seats. Everyone has had enough of this…fortunately few people close to us have gotten very ill but it’s been hard on many families, both those who have contracted it and those who have not. A couple of families at work have had members pass away this year and I feel for them the most.

Happy New Year Porch dwellers! I wish you all good health.

I wish you the very best with Hip Replacements my friend . You seem too young for that .

Harry

Do Not count me in Bruce . I have an old Schrade Sharp Finger . At least 2021was better for us than 2020 was , but still we did not to get to do much of the Traveling that we had been accustomed to . We would very much like to get to go to Indiana , Michigan , Missouri , Tennessee and Titusville , Pa. this year to see our Families and Friends . Should be able to go to the Janesville , Wisconsin Badger Blade Show though .

Rockon, had my left hip replaced two years ago and the difference is amazing. No more hip pain! Do your PT and you’ll be back in the game! Have a successful surgery! 😃

Great giveaway Old Hunter Old Hunter ! I would like to take a trip to Wisconsin to visit my son and his family, hopefully, in late March to coincide with the Badger knife show in Janesville. I would also like to make it to the OKCA show in April. Probably dreaming to think I could make both shows. Included a couple of pics from the 2019 OKCA show and some Canadian knife content.

The news media seem to thrive on coronavirus deathtolls like maggots on a turd ....I find it more infectious and sickening than the actual virus...so I avoid free to air news like the plague.
Q.what did the anti vaxxer say at the kfc ?
A. Bucket of deepfried bird hold the secret herbs n spices.

On a far more important subject...what will the 22 bf trad look like?

Cheers and be safe.

Thank you for the opportunity to win a Schrade Lumberjack! I just hope Covid-19 turns into the promising Omikron version and i no longer have to worry about my patients infecting me, or me infecting them. I work as a Registered Nurse on a Nuclear Medicine department. We use radioactive tracers to detect cancers ( PET-scanner) and we use radioactive medication for cancer treatment. Due to COVID-19 we saw a lot of untreated or late stage cancers because people where afraid to come to the hospital or people that could not get an operation because normal operation was halted. I volunteered for the COVID department but had to stop due to exhaustion. So that are my hopes.

Great idea for a GAW! I'm not entering it, but I hope I can go to the Netherlands with my choir in the summer and use some of my terrible Dutch on the natives. Been there a couple of times before when I was a kid and liked it, so it would be great to visit again plus it's always fun to go somewhere with the lads. If you're not flying you can also take a knife with you and not feel "naked" ...
