image.jpg i have seen several gaws on here and am admittedly a sucker for traditional knives. I am doing a GAW to celebrate finding a forum of the knowledge and friendly nature of the folks on the porch here.

So here goes:
From now til next Wednesday tell me about either
1. The first knife you were except given
2.The first knife you gave away
3. The first knife you saved for and bought yourself
I will generate a winner randomly on thrusday morning 5/4/2017.

The prize is a 1993.5-1999 4 dot red bone Case xx canoe pattern. Good luck and I look forward to the stories.

I'm in. Very generous of you.
I think the first knife I saved up for and bought was with my paper route money, maybe ... 1968? Schrade Old Timer 7OT, if memory serves. I had it on my belt every day from Junior High until after I graduated high school.
I've no idea what happened to it. :(
I've had a couple 7OT's since, and a couple Buck 110. They make a good EDC, in my opinion. I complement them now with a scout knife and a Stockman, Barlow, or canoe, these days.

I'm not in, because I am trying to spread the luck, but that is a nice case you are offering. I still like to participate.

The first knife I was given here on bladeforums was this one:
View media item 393It was given to me by EyeDog EyeDog
I have since given it to my father because he needed a nice knife for around the farm. He is quite fond of that knife.

And the first knife I gave on bladeforums was one like this:
View media item 404I give away official Boy Scouts of America knives in memoriam of my little brother. I had been doing them on the anniversary of his death (which is in a couple weeks), but moved the memorial to his birthday this January.

The first knife that was gifted to me was a SAK camper. I got it, I believe, in 3rd grade and carried it every day with pride through elementary and middle school! I wish I knew where it ended up, it got lost somewhere during one of our moves:(
The first knife I bought myself was in 6th grade. I bought a frost fixed blade and beat the heck out of it! I actually still have that one.
I like the canoe pattern, but don't have a Case version of it so please count me in!

The first knife I was given must have been the demo knife I vaguely remember having as a kid. I don't really remember how I got it, but is doubt that I could have paid for it, and I hope I didn't steal it, so I'm gonna have to go with "given".

The first knife I can clearly remember being given was a Browning liner lock, that came in bubble pack along with an LED headlamp. My wife was really giving me the headlamp; the knife just happened to come with the deal. Not much of a knife, but it was my first experience with one handed openers, and it got me thinking about knives. She has since given me a Griptilian, a USMC Kabar, a SOG Spec Elite, and most recently a Case seahorse whittler.

I have given lots of knives to my wife, kids and grandson, usually for Xmas or a birthday, but sometimes just for the heck of it, but I do not consider gifts to relatives to be "giving away" a knife. I gave away a Case peanut to my buddy and Sturmey-Archer guru who converted a 4-speed Dynahub to five speeds, laced it into a wheel, and helped me install it in my Raleigh DL1. The other knife I gave away was a Mora 612 on this forum.

I'm in, thank you for your generosity!
The first knife I was given was a Buck 110 that my dad had found. I desperately wish I still had it. I broke the tip and my mom threw it away . The first knife I gave away was an old timer 2 blade, not sure what model... gave it to a friend who isn't much into knives but does like traditionals. And the first knife I saved for and got myself would be a Benchmade Emissary 477-1. I only recently (last 2 years or so) started to use and collect higher quality knives. I used knives like Kershaw, Victorinox, and Buck since I was a little kid.
Good luck everyone, and thank you again for the opportunity OP!

Thanks for the chance, never owned a canoe yet.

I think the first knife I was given was and old Craftsman Scout knife by my grandfather that was a scout master way back before my time. I've still got it.

First one I gave away was a SAK, tinkerer I think but not positive.

If you don't count the $5 hollow plastic handle gimmick Rambo knife from the back of a Boys Life I think the first knife of any real value I saved for to buy would have been a Benchmade 190 Hunter. Still possibly one of the most ergonomic knives I've ever owned. It's gutted, skinned, and processed untold numbers of whitetails. And traveled thousands of miles through probably 15 states. It'll still shave arm hair.

Thank you for the opportunity. The very first knife I had to save for to buy was the knife that led me to this very cool place we all love and enjoy. It was my first TC Barlow. I had just started into knives as an adult ( when I was a young boy I loved them but along the way somehow I lost interest. Only reason I can think of is girls lol.) and I had found myself watching YouTube reviews of different knives and the TC Barlow jump out at me big time. I went to Google and long story short. I ended up finding a 2015 TC on the exchange but even more important and much more valuable I found the porch. :D I truly love spending my time here. Good times with great people for sure.:thumbsup::thumbsup:;)

Resistance is futile.
I love these kind of givawaze.
My Dad bought me a SAK for Christmas maybe 1978. I remember trying to work out what was in the package. Hefting it ,sniffing it,shaking it. I had noooo idea. On xmas morn I tore that sucker open like a polar bear with a car door whose driver never cleans his mcdonalds wrappers out of his vehicle.
Lo and behold a SAK.
Although it was a knickoff I treasured that knife.
I went to the saddle maker where I lived and paid my pocket money to have him make a belt sheath for it.
In the end the knife fell to bits and got left behind in my wake.
I kept the sheath though and eventually found a replacement for the knife.
The Angler is the same size. Ive owned this one over 30 years. Even got a duplicate now.

Good to have you here, and thanks for the giveaway :) Not an entry please, but good luck everyone

The year was 1975 (or thereabouts), I had a newly minted driver's license, and I just started my summer job at a garden center. I was issued a black SAK gardeners knife. Used it every day, until one day I get a call from my manager saying the garden center was on fire (I was off that day). When I got there the place was a smoking ruin. Funny aside, there was a young sales guy who just loved to push the summer help around. So when I got there the guy was out in the garden, wading in knee deep water looking for the plugged storm drain. I knew right where it was, but when he asked me to help I said 'don't think so, it's my day off'. Anyway, with the place gone I figured they wouldn't be needing the SAK, so I kept it. Still have it to this day, now out in the garage. Nice knife.

Not in, I've got more than my share of winning GAWs, but it's fun to answer !

1. The first knife you were except given no doubt my Laguiole, a common effort from my 2 children helped by (ex)wife and another friend (for the sheath).

Looks like by my count 8 entries so far. I will generate the winner by total entries to eliminate having to regenerate numbers until I finally land on an entry because there are a few posts that are not entries. Again good luck everyone

A few more hours and this knife will find a new home. Get those stories posted gents and ladies I am enjoying all of them
