Gayle Bradley Bowie??? Its REAL!!! PSF27 Steel???

Marthinus you are correct. The PSF 27 material is made via the Ospray "now called Danspray" process. PM and Danspray start the same way with an atomizer making powder. PM lets the powder fall and solidify. The powder is then placed into a can as loose powder then consolidated into an ingot by Hot Isostatic Pressing. In Danspray, the powder is directed toward a rotating platen and the ingot is built up during atomization. Danspray will have a PM structure that contains slightly larger carbides than PM produced via HIPing.

So I was scrolling through knife center and see this:

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

WOW, but can someone tell me about this PSF27 steel??? Like a composition chart or something?

If its anything like I'm hoping, I'm gonna be on that preorder list!!!

Knife looks great
But I have a bad experience with knife center with preorders.
one was a long story with Spyderco Endura in ZDP-189 - initially I score it when they have annual sale. I paid money ,but in 1 week receive a massage that they have it out of stuck and have problems upgrading his internet problems that knife is not available.

Shortly it appeared again in slightly higher price and I again paid the money for it. I received the massage that the knife is not immediately available but will be sent within 3-4 weeks. 2 months later they return money and told that I will not get it.

later on I preordered spyderco Dragonfly, manbug and ladybug in blue steel. end up that these knives appeared anywhere - BladeHQ, KnifecountryUSA and so on in free sale even after they completed there preorders but knifecenter still did not start to ship even preorders. I waited 3 weeks then just cancelled my preorder and bought it from other source ( but the way - cheaper).

after that I stopped preordering form them. but it was several occasion when I saw a new knives on sale in other store and knife center still was showing "you can preorder the item", when other companies already selling them.

It's kind of a common complaint with KC pre-orders. Most of the time it works out OK though.
My problem is that I forget when I do pre-orders. Wound up with 3 S110V carbon Native 5s.
And have gotten a few other doubles.
I've got to stop lusting after knives when I've had a few brewskies I guess. ;)

Haha nice. Can't say I've ever had that problem, although 3 S110V CF Natives has rarely been known to be a problem, lol. :D I still need ONE to start with!

Just don't get caught up bidding on cars on ebay after you're a few drinks deep! :p

I've been very curious about this one since I've seen maker Big Chris putting out some PSF27 blades lately. But then there's the folding Bowie... too many knives.

This is the nicest fixed blade design Spyderco has put out, right up there next to the Southfork.

Have you tried the Temperance 2?
Please don't get me wrong, as both the Southfork and I'm sure Gayle's Bowie are great. I just feel that VG10, especially in the T2, to be just outstanding.

If the Bradley Bowie is heat treated anything like the mule team version, it should be a very good knife. I'm extremely pleased with the mule blade. I've made several posts about it on the spyderco forum including pictures and what I feel are fairly thorough reviews. If I was in the market for a large fixed blade knife I would not hesitate to buy the Bradley Bowie over many other ones.

d2 type steel performance

This seems to be a misconception. When this steel was announced for the Mule people said it was "just D2" and buyers were not enthusiastic. Mr. Bradley seems to think that it performs much beyond "just D2". I'd like to see some proof of how much better it is.

Still waiting on this badboy....
Any ideas when we can expect it to hit the streets??

If PSF27 is good enough for Gayle Bradley to choose to use it for his fixed blade I'm going to trust his decision. He hasn't let me down yet. I held one at Recon 1 today and it felt great in the hand as well. I had to put one on hold. I plan to pick it up later this week. Can't wait!

They had these at recon 1? Awesome! I'll have to stop by there again sometime soon.

I've sharpened mine but haven't used it except to slice catalog paper. It sharpens like M390, in my opinion. It takes a bit of work to grind the new bevel but then polishes up beautifully up to 1000 grit. It takes a ridiculously sharp edge, a lot like CPM-M4. I set the edge angle at 18 degrees per side on my EdgePro.

I finally got a chance to play with the Bradley Bowie a little. I took a 6 hour hike up to Lowe Peak in the Oquirrh Mountains of Utah.

I wasn't spending the night so no real wood processing this time. I just used the Bowie to smooth and shape the hiking stick I picked up along the way. The handle felt soooo nice... considerably nicer in my hand than my ESEE 4 (which is what I usually use). The blade cut extremely well as I expected from a .156 blade with a full flat grind. I didn't have a need to split any kindling and baton with it yet so I still have more to learn about this knife. But, after the first use, I am very excited about my new go-to fixed blade.

Oh, and when I got back to the hotel after a long day on the mountain...it sliced my steak beautifully too. :p
