Gayle Bradley Hard Use

Love the M4 and the grip. Not too happy about the lack of choil jimping, but it's not a deal breaker by any stretch. Also would like a slightly more positive blade angle.

Very very awesome knife. Put a patina on mine that is wearing off.

Gayle Bradley's are meant to get dirty !
This is a hardchore workhorse !!!

Very nice, is it just the photo(or my eyes) but has your blade overall taken a more uniform grey stain, aside from the more blotchy dark stains??

Also, the edge looks convexed? I might be on crack, though :p

To get the tub out, I had to cut through the fiberglass around the drain.

Finally, someone says hard use and means it. Right on.

Here is my GB, with the scale relieved by Brother Krein to give more access to the Spydie hole and liner lock. From the factory, I found the liner lock somewhat less than easy to disengage - which I assume is intentional.

No hard use on mine, yet. But boy do I love seeing you use yours like that.

Yes, there is a little dull grey patina which can be wiped easily though... Patina seems to wear off very easily.

It has been stropped everyday but yesterday I have used ceramic on it for the first time. 5 strokes with the white ceramic of the Sharpmaker were enough to get it back to "dangerous" sharp again.

Nice mods.

Update for first week of Bradley at work - This M4 is freakin' great stuff. I'm whittling stuff off and on most of the day at work and only use the throw away razor knives when I need a narrow or flexible tip. It's sharper all day than my throw aways are when they're new.
Love this blade.

No photos here, yet... gotta get my camera out at work.
Anyway, I've been putting my knives through a series of moderate tests and the Gayle Bradley is outperforming all of my other knives.
If it was a little smaller I'd be using it at work. I have tons of sharp stuff at work and can only justify "X" amount of space for a knife.
The Bradley will be my camping/whittling/carving buddy, that's for sure.

anyone used gun blue on their GB yet? i'm thinking of trying mine

No need on CPM M4 IMHO. I'm still waiting for a work patina (not a force patina) on mine...
Some grey spot on the blade but nothing really as fast and strong as on my 1095-1075 blade...
CPM M4 (as heat treated by Spyderco) is wonderfull steel !

I don't have new pictures of the GB in hard uses but as soon as I got some I will post them here !
My favorite Spyderco collaboration so far and the perfect heir to my old Starmate.

It seems that being a professional tradesman and not the average user makes me use my KNIFE less hard than some people here. That is due to having an arsenal of tools to use.

Andrew, you are crazy for using your knife to do that kind of stuff, but if it makes you happy, do it. As for me, I'll be busting out the sawzall/drill/holesaw/etc etc etc etc etc.......

My knife only gets used to cut stuff. I guess it's sad. It does get a lot of use though.

I'm not a professional tradesman so I don't have a lot of specialized tools to do particular jobs. So the knife gets used, sometimes fairly hard. But the edge is always sharp, and the knife still has no play in the pivot. I'm happy with how it has performed.

Andrew, thanks for the review.
I wonder, what the RC hardness value on the Gayle Bradley M4 blade could be.

I believe there have been multiple GBs tested that have come out at 65 HRC. Pretty cool to have a production knife with that kind of hardness that is still tough enough to stand up to the type of uses shown in this thread.

I've been trimming excess 5200 (a marine grade, permanent bedding compound of herculean strength) out of tight deck seams... lots of it. Every cutting instrument I've tried has had great difficulty cutting this stuff for any length of time, 'cept for the GB.
Something about the grind, and of course the metal, makes this the best cutter I have. I get other slicer blades equally sharp and none in my collection beat the GB when I'm whittling, slicing or even light chopping on the job. I'm a woodworker and have found that the GB fills a legitimate spot in my whittling tools collection.
Guess I'd better order a backup... love this blade.
I hope the rumor of another GB/Spydie creation comes true.

Edit: Come to think of it, I can't get my other blades quite as sharp as my GB, except for maybe my ZDP 189 blades. M4 ala GB seems to be better for me than ZDP 189 in the seams.
