Gayle Bradley, Military or Police? Spyderco is ruining me with options.

In reference to the comment above about the GB not being a good wood cutter, my GB reprofiled to 15 dps whittles and carves wood like no other knife I have, all while maintaining excellent edge retention. YMMV

I got the GB today. It is gorgeous, like a piece of modern sculpture. Looks better in reality than in pictures.

I also noticed it is very sharp, because I quickly proceeded to cut myself :D Stupidity has a price. Not badly, but even a touch draws blood. The liner lock is stiff and you have to concentrate when you are closing the knife, which I noticed.

I also took, after some handling, the clip off. Much better now, very good ergonomicks. Mr Bradley sure knows his trade. After all the talk that this is bit heavy I was surpriced, it does not feel too heavy. The liners are after all skeletonized. I will carry this in a pocket sheath, I noticed that one I made fits it.

It is dark now so tomorrow I will take some pictures. I am a happy man :D

I put the GB to good use this weekend. I must say that this edge, even if it is shaving sharp, could cut better. With foodstuffs it is not recognizable, but the difference can be felt when cutting wood to make kindling for fire. So I must think of reprofiling the edge.

How did you do the reprofiling? I have a stone system with quide, would that be sufficient?

I have the Military. It looks great and it has one of the best if not THE best linerlocks I've seen. The downside for me is actually what's generally concidered a big plus; weight. Or rather the lack of it.

Eventhough I'm sure it's a sturdy blade it feels rather flimsy in hand. The knife just doesn't inspire much confidence in hand. You know when I hold a Manix 2, a ZT0550/0560 those knives have a certain heft to them that makes you feel confident about them.

I don't own the police myself but I've handled it. It feels much more weighty but in these days of supersteels I don't know how I'd feel about getting a VG10 blade anymore.

If you're serious about a higher end tactical folder I'd check out a ZT or Emerson.

Edit: I see you're already set :D

Everyone should have a Gayle Bradley in their collection. Best cutter I have just oil the blade every now and then. Worth the $150 all day long.

I took the plunge and made a small relief to the liner so I can get my thumb in the hole properly. It also made a tremendous change in the ease of closing the blade.

The really exiting part is the reprofile of the edge.

The liner lock feels very solid, but I am not going to test it. Still, I prefer the compression lock. Now that I made a relief to the liner both are about as easy to use.

Pivots on both knives can be adjusted to the point that they are very smooth, but have no play. I have read that liner lock in the GB is one of the best of its kind.
