Gayle Bradley vs Southard

The Southard is not as smooth as some other flippers - which I actually like because there isn't such a worry about the blade falling freely on your fingers while closing. I like the blade to go and stay where I want it to, not swing around freely. Here is a video from Randy about being careful not to pinch the washers inside the Southard - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyDCkcL_A24

I think you will get to be very happy with your new knife. As regards to "fix that" flipper action - not a good idea to open up a new Spyderco - that will void the warranty. Not saying that you intend to do that but some guys (including me) have done that by way of looking to make it flip easier. Here is a thread that might give you some insights on how to flip a flipper. You should not need to "push hard" - http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1333569-Am-I-expecting-too-much-a-about-flippers

Great link! That helped a lot. I was using the light switch method. It's flipping much better now with no failures since I changed my technique.

Carried it all day so far. Took it out during lunch to fondle and admire it (don't judge me). It had scratches all over it from my keys. I'm so upset. I guess the keys will go in the left pocket from now on and phone in the right. This changes my whole life!

I been swapping out carrying my Southard and PM2(S35Vn) for about 6 months and I really like the Southard. It is slim in the pocket but retains it's 4" blade length. I have never touched a GB so I nothing to comment on that. I do like CPM - M4 steel a lot, I recently retired my BM LFTi in favor of the PM2 and the Southard.
Which ever one you choose, will serve you well. Good luck with your decision.

Often the "scratches" are just wear on your keys not the knife (brass stuck on your blade), but eventually black coated knives will start showing more and more wear. Usually it is from rocks, sand etc. which is hard enough to actually scratch the black coating. My experience is with Spydercos DLC coated knives from the US and the Southard might be a bit different. I've never liked coatings, for several reasons, so all of my current knives are uncoated.
