There are several questions about this knife,

http://bladeauction.com/cgi-bin/osa/ViewPage.cgi?templateName=item_form.htx&itemNumber=599384

In the pictures it shows the "R" in strider is at an angle.
I have 3 AR's and a GB, all of mine are straight up and down and in line.

000 also has the new style (current) liner lock?

And the liners are not as thick as the earlier knifes.

IS...this a true prototyper knife?

here are some points brought up by HC LEO:

Question?
I generally do know my Striders but this question is bugging me!??

Firstly "000" is most definitely collectible and can command prices such as we see.

Question? : (I stand to be corrected) The 'orginal' Strider folders as shown in their brochures indicates the folder with a FLAT Spine to the edge as opposed to the current production folders with the Sloping or curved spine.

My question is, Is the # "000" designation refer to the beginning of production of all current Striders folders? or the beginning of the production of the curved spine folder. Because if it means the latter then there may be two folders with the # "000" one for the flat spined Strider folder and another for the current curved spine folder!

I stand to be corrected again but I recall seeing picture of a flat spine folder with a # "000" . The one for sale has the curve spine

I have just answered my own question. I decided to check through my collection of American Handgunner and there are TWO Striders folders with the #"000"

CheckAmerican Handgunner issue March/April 2001 (the one with the Beretta Elite II on the cover). On page 60 is a picture of the flat spine Strider folder under a Beretta Elite with the serial # "000"

This 000 is marked ats-34.

Is this a prototype to the current run of GB's, and is the blade on this one mis-marked BG-42 or ATS-34?

Thanks for helping us with this one Mr. Strider.

edited to add urtl.....

Is this a prototype to the current run of GB's

If I'm no mistaken the AR and GB protos are different from the #'000' marked Striders. The protos are marked "Prototype" and are not to be confused with the serialized ones. I think?! :)

I have pictures of the protos if anyone is interested , email me.

ps I dont own the Protos :(

Then I started to really study it. I do know the seller and he is a genuine guy, but there is something about that GB that just does not look right.
I think the reserve is somewhere arount $650.00 or higher:eek:   I dunno, "000" ????wolf

We made two batches of 000 knives. Six knives in each batch.
The first had the more angular tip.
We didn't assemble knives with all of the blades.
Later, we did. That explains the later generation liners.

Brief history;
Any time we prototype a knife. We make several "test pieces".
The very first is usually marked XM. Though not always.
Next, if it is a folder, we will make a group marked "proto".
These are the first ones made to the drawing generated by the first one.
Next come the "000" blades. These are the first blades manufactured in the way that they will come when most people buy them.

We didn't make any "000" with the full bevel grind.
We did make a few XM blades though.

Hope it helps.

Mick

Here's my question: Are all Strider custom folders (GB & AR) serial numbered? If they are NOT, how hard would it be to stamp "000" on one, and if needed, re-beadblast it?

BladeAuction!! Man thats a place I have almost forgot about. Think I better start adding them to my daily scouting list :)

What would this knife be called?
Prototype?
Pre-production?
Production?
Bastard?

It's being sold as a Prototype. Thanks Again

Thanks for the info Mick! :)

Great to know a little more about the Strider production process.

Mick

Know where one of the angular tip folders maybe be for sale? :D

1whobuys,

is the GB in your pictures numbered? Is it number #000?

Do you have #50?

Just wondering?
