Gb 5.5

When / where will those be available? I handled one at Blade and I was very impressed. Despite its military origin, it might well be the best production camp knife ever. (I'm not sold on the clunky sheath though.)

Another vote for no serrations! What can I say, just don't like 'em. Sorry. I would probably have to have a plain edge model. Hint...hint...;)

I heard back from CR, and they say they hope to have them by mid-July.

I have talked (and BEGGED) to crk quite a bit on the no seration request and at this point it is set in stone- or at least Chris' head that there will be no Green Berets without serations. Even those who have personal favor that have been requesting have been turned down. This has been requested since the begining and as late as late last week. So there is the sorta official word and stand on the issue...

Serrations on the false edge would have been cool, leaving the primary edge plain.

Seems like they could double or even triple their sales if they offered a non-serrated version, based on the responses I've seen here.

Not sure about that. I'd rather have had a plain edge, but I'll get one nonetheless. Those serrations are indeed flat and should prove easy to sharpen. The only thing I'm trying to decide is 7" now or 5.5" later...

Well, I begged too.....

But I did get Bridget to agree to take a petition to Chris if we send her one....;)

Who wants to sign up?

As would I. If the GBs were available without serrations I would not hesitate to place my order.

FYI, a knife very similar to the GB 5.5, without the serrations, is the Al Mar SERE Operator.
I'd suggest to hold them both for a while... still similar? Man... these are two totally different animals.

Nope, not even close. I have the Operator, have handled the GB, and can say that they don't have much in common except a vaguely similar shape.

The serrations really work well. I know serrations aren't cool on Bladeforums but these are very helpful at times. They really don't get in the way, since the GB has a nice choil, you can choke up on the blade and still do more detailed fine woodwork with the plain edge.

While the 7" model may indeed have 1.5" of serrations (don't know, don't have one), the 5.5" has just over 1".

The serrations are also very easy to sharpen, I don't even notice a difference from my plain edge knives.

I for one think it's a good thing that manufacturers don't always listen to the people on the forums, otherwise every knife made would be plain edge, satin finish, non-tanto, etc. I like the variety.

I have to agree, only from the other side. I have a GB and have handled the Operator a few times. They seem to be very different knives. Although, my GB has a 7" blade.

I like the way the Operator looks, but don't quite like the way it feels. Everyone that owns one has nothing but good things to say about it. However, in that size range I prefer my Mountaineer II or even my Fallkniven S1. To each their own, I guess....

The handling differences aren't hard to figure out. The SERE Operator is only 6% shorter than the GB 5.5, but it's 33% lighter and much thinner. The weight, balance, and thickness differences will obviously make the two knives feel very different in the hand.

This was just a suggestion for the numerous folks who seemed to be very opposed to having serrations. Not to worry -- I don't think anyone will lose any CRK sales over it.
