I have a question regarding a GB folder that
I recently acquired at a web auction.

It has a PROTO marking on the tiger stripe
blade. I remember seeing a 00 model on a
magazine but PROTO is completely new to me.
I am curious to know how many were made with
this marking and is this model different from
the production model. The previous owner told
me that he bought it last year at a knife show
in Las Vegas.

The one you have sounds like it was mine that someone bought off my side at the show.
Congrats. You own my personal knife.
That has to be worth a ton of money.

Yes, the one in the picture is exactly the same
GB folder that I have.

The PROTO will stay with me here in Japan.
