GB1 - A eulogy

GB1 has been getting some pocket time this last couple weeks. A truly great design!

Hey at least the GB 2 addressed most of the less desirable traits of the 1 (weight, hard to unlock etc), costs less and is still being made.

I only briefly had a GB1, bought it second hand. I don't know what exactly was the issue but no joke the M4 would literally rust within 30 seconds of dripping tap water on it. I don't know if the blade had been exposed to some caustic substance that water activated or what but it was so rust prone I had to vinegar patina it to almost black. My GB 2 has none of that issue at all, very weird.

The GB2 does seem to have a finer finish on the blade. Should help resist rusting a little better.

Weird about your GB1. Mine hasn't formed a natural patina yet. I wipe it down after use and it still looks relatively new after a couple years. No oil or anything.

I don't feel there are any shortcomings of the GB1. It's exactly what it's supposed to be. Either you like it or you don't. I see the GB 2 as a different knife using the same materials.

Both knives are superb.

Interesting, and I have seen similar results with my 2, virtually no staining. I also now use Tuf Cloth to protect all but the most stainless of steels.

Ended up selling my 1, the member on here who bought it likes the dark patina and as far as I know has put the knife to extensive use. My 2 gets carried at least a day or two a week.

Haha. That's the spirit! The GB1 "wake" is still in full swing after its untimely funeral.
