GB1 vs. GB2

Not too long ago, I sold my Gayle Bradley (not because I wanted to) and Im looking to get another one. I seen that the Gayle Bradley 2 is significantly thinner on the liner lock and the blade profile is different. Should I push forth to get a 2.0 or seek out and find an original?

I have both and they are carried for different reasons.
I take the GB1 when I know I will be doing more extensive cutting, usually in a farm/ranch scenario. Mainly do to the wider grip which makes me feel more in control of the blade.
I take the GB2 when I just feel like EDCing a large folder. For me it rides more comfortable in pocket than the GB1 and is still a very capable folder.

GB 1 is the brother that lifts weights. GB 2 is the brother that runs marathons.

the only thing i dont like on the gb2 is the thinner liners and lock. if it had the thick ones like the gb1.....it would be better.

if that doesnt matter to you the gb2 is very nice even though its different than the gb1 ergo wise, dimensionally and such.

GB1 ate to much junk food and got ass heavy.

GB2 is thinner and lighter.
No choil and it feels like a different knife because it has removed.

GB1 won me over because of the liner mod.

GB2... You can't really modify a liner lock relief to make it is just as effective.

If Spyderco CQIs the GB2... Compression lock... Or a good relief cut.

I prefer the 2. The Military is easily better than both if it's size isn't a problem for you ;)

I have a 1, guy I work with has a 2. I like how heavy the 1 is made compared to the 2, but I like the handle shape of the 2. Choil nod goes to 1, blade length to 2. Guess the moral of the story is both are good, just different and if they make a 3 hopefully it combines the qualities I like from both.:D

What do you like to carry as far as size and weight? That will answer your question. Both will cut! I EDC the GB1 around the shop and yard. The size and weight are okay and I carry it in a ballistic nylon belt loop sheath.

I'm still so happy with my One that I have no interest in the Two. The Two is too much like all the other knives if you know what I mean. I don't want the finger guard like protrusion and I really like the thick liners and the slight extra heft of the original.

And it cuts through butter as if it were . . . butter !

I have 1. My friend got a 2. Because of 1, the 2 feels flimsy and not as robust. If they never make 1, I might be happy with 2. Like Bagger said, it (2) seems just like any other liner lock, the 1 is what powerful means.
I got a backup for my 1. Both are full liner (not skeletonized).
This thread gets 28 pages mostly because of 1:

The GB2 is one sexy ass knife!

I just recieved mine Saturday, and it lives up to my preconceptions in every way. I lusted after one of these for years, all the while reading the same misinformed drivel implying it was inferior to the first one.

Pay no heed to the oft parroted whining of the difficult lock release. Everything is adaptable with some modified technique.

Ignore also, the repetitive concerns of thinner liners, weaker feel, and whatever other regurgitated negativity that endlessly loops on the internet. Spyderco knows how to make solid knife. Frankly, all the implications of it being weak are an insult to Sal.

Knife knuts spend a huge amount of time overthinking perceived capabilities and limitations, and taking printed specs and anecdotal evidence as gospel.

In the end, the only functional difference will depend on your own personal preferences. This knife is every bit as capable as the GB1, with some added benefits like a subtle gaurd, thinness, and lightness.

Personally, for ME, this is the closest I've ever been to owning my grail!

Either way, you can't go wrong!

Thx.

I have two Milis. All black and and the Ti. I carry all sizes, it just depends on my mood of the day or where I may be going or doing.

Size and weight isn't really a preference issue for me. I do prefer the look of the original and the smoothness of the blade deployment. Plus that nice solid click of the blade due to the thicker liner locks. But I can tell from others that the GB2 has its pros like the thinness.

Option 1: Try a GB2.
Option 2: Find a GB1 for a decent price and just go back to what I know.
Option 3: Hold out for a GB3 and hope its the best of both worlds.
Option 4: Let my knife addiction get the best of me and get all of them. lol

Well,

Any “other liner lock” made by Spyderco is adequate. Nothing wrong with 2. Jamesh said it well.

Except that I have experienced 1 first :p so it resulted in bias ;)
