The Military is easily better than both
No.. it's not.
GBs 1 or 2 have strong tips.
Can the Millie poke some wood without fear of loosing it's point?
Nope
The GB2 is one sexy ass knife!
I just recieved mine Saturday, and it lives up to my preconceptions in every way. I lusted after one of these for years, all the while reading the same misinformed drivel implying it was inferior to the first one.
Pay no heed to the oft parroted whining of the difficult lock release. Everything is adaptable with some modified technique.
Ignore also, the repetitive concerns of thinner liners, weaker feel, and whatever other regurgitated negativity that endlessly loops on the internet. Spyderco knows how to make solid knife. Frankly, all the implications of it being weak are an insult to Sal.
Knife knuts spend a huge amount of time overthinking perceived capabilities and limitations, and taking printed specs and anecdotal evidence as gospel.
In the end, the only functional difference will depend on your own personal preferences. This knife is every bit as capable as the GB1, with some added benefits like a subtle gaurd, thinness, and lightness.
Personally, for ME, this is the closest I've ever been to owning my grail!
Either way, you can't go wrong!
Thx.
Jamesh, I'm glad to hear you like your GB2 - may it serve you well (highly likely).
Sorry to see you characterize my assessment of the two knives the OP asked about as "misinformed drivel".
I was actually super excited to see the GB2, so much so that I arrived at my local dealer the day it arrived. I would bet I was the first to handle their first GB2 outside of the store employees. Yes, I was let down by my initial experience with the first one I handled - it must have been defective as it locked up so late it nearly touched the opposite side. I've had numerous GB1's and never experienced that before. Perhaps if you had the same experience I did you wouldn't be so quick to disparage my opinion. Since my initial experience was in all likelihood one of the earlier examples of a GB2 in the wild, I'd say "parroting" is not a reasonable description either.
As I said in post #13, the GB2 is indeed a nice knife - in fact I've often considered it a much more cost effective Spydie Umnumzaan (my all time favorite CRK by the way). That said, had it been the initial "Gayle Bradley", I personally do not think there would have generated the allure that the actual original created. The GB1 truly does stand alone to this day - I know of no other knife that looks or feels anything like it.
