Sold off all but my Strider smf and Emerson cqc7bw and can't afford to go big for awhile so I'm looking for a tough but still sliced edc. Smf is great but a man needs 3 folders cmon.

What say you guys between these 2 knives? Other similar suggestions welcome.

What grind is your SMF?

If its flat, I'd go for the GB2. I think the nice hollow grind of the Bradley would complement the thick strong flat grind of the SMF.

The Manix will outperform the Bradley. Maxamet isn't amazing, the Manix's ffg will out slice the Bradley and the Manix weighs a bit less. That said, the Bradley is a stunning knife and performs well. It is smooth as glass, sleek in the hand and pocket and the hollow grind looks great. It is an amazing knife and IMO the best value in Spyderco's lineup. I have both of these knives and they are two of my most carried.

The Manix is all go and no show. Just a silly lightweight high performance cutter.

The Bradley has just as much show as it does go. It is a high performance knife that you can get your jollies fondling and caressing and you can show it off to your friends if that is your thing.

I would not part with either of mine and I would sell most of my other knives before I ever let one of these two go.

You say maxamet isn't amazing. Is that a typo? You mean it IS?

I'm into the looks both. GB2 is definitely sexy. Which of the 2 is more rugged and would be a good knife for a companion at construction sites? I love slicey but I'd want some ruggedness too.

He meant IS lol. The lock on the Manix 2 is what Spyderco rates as an MBC lock. Basically their strongest locks. However the Gayle Bradley folder was purpose built as a construction site tool.

Sal on the MBC locks
Hi. The Manix is running over 200 inch/lbs per inch of blade which would rate it Very Heavy Duty (same as MBC, but as suggested by a forumite, MBC may not be a good name for the rating considering the large number of customers that have no interest in Martial Blade Craft (MBC).

Hi Cutengineer. Welcome to the Spyderco forum.

There is no governing body that sets rating. Spyderco employs our own in-house rating system in the construction of our designs. We set the desired standard when we design the model and build to that standard. We test (break) the models in development and continue to test (break) the models to ensure that our standards have not changed.

In-house Lock strength standards

Light Duty = over 25 inch/lbs of lock strength per inch of blade length.
Medium Duty = over 50 inch/lbs per inch of blade length.
Heavy Duty = over 100 inch/lbs per inch of blade length.
Very Heavy Duty (MBC) = over 200 inch/lbs of lock strength per inch of blade length.

We also have our standards for G-10 (ours is custom made), blade strength, and other general safety issues.

I would add IMO that the Manix2 is easier to open (and is truly ambidextrous if that matters to you). The Spydie-hole on the GB2 is partially obstructed by the frame. I have the lightweight M2 in S110V and like it a lot for a work knife.

if i had the choice i would go manix2 maxamet, but i dont like the LW version because its frn and i prefer carbon fiber over FRN, plus... the LW version cannot be taken apart, and i have to maintain my tools.

The GB2 is nice, but its carbon fiber does not appeal to me in the least bit. i think its just a layer of cf over g10 or something, but there is traction (less traction in relation to say my peel ply carbon fiber that my PM2 CF/m4 has). i do like the blade M4 and the blade profile tho. nice ergo's, but ... PM2 CF/M4 takes the cake for me over this one too... but if you need that different blade style, the GB2 is for you.

The Manix 2 LW in any configuration is a winner. They are lean and mean. If you don't like the plastic feel that takes some getting used to but they are very capable. If the GB is your thing I would say spend the extra and find an original instead of the 2nd version. I have both the GB1 and a Manix 2 LW in Xhp. I love both

The OP stated toughness was a factor.
M4 is tougher than Maxamet...

I have a manix 2 g10 s30v. Great slicer. Steel holds up well. Im sure maxamet would hold up better

If it's not a huge difference I could still be swayed either way. I may go with whatever is cheaper.
