GB2 or maxamet Manix 2

The OP stated toughness was a factor.
M4 is tougher than Maxamet...

i didn't assume he ment toughness as in blade steel but a tough user knife overall. but you do have a very Good point.

he also said he wanted a slicer, I believe the manix2 is a better slicer of the two, but the pm2 probably a better slicer than both, manix2 has a stronger tip in comparison to the pm2 tho due to its blade profile... if that mattered. gb2 probably has stronger tip than both of those. just some assumptions

I did mean overall toughness. Pm2 tip is too thin for what I'm looking for. Seems the maxamet and m4 are very close so whichever knife displays overall toughness as well as being a fairly adequate slicer. Doesn't have to be an atom splitter.

Not to sound like a car salesman, but for a "slight increase in price you could upgrade to" the KC exclusive M2 with CruWear blade and carbon fiber scales if the plastic scales/inability to disassemble is also an issue. CruWear has a very good reputation around here as well, although it is NOT a stainless steel.

I like tool steel. No requirements for stainless. I didn't mind the fact that I couldn't take it apart, that was someone else.

That was me.

Maxamet, cruwear and m4 will all patina or rust if the blade is not oiled on a regular basis.

hows the carbon fiber on that? it doesnt seem to have traction like the GB2 G10/CF lamanet or the FRN of the manix2. not sure if that matters to the OP.

Just curious what daily tasks do you do that require such characteristics from a blade steel? In regards to toughness its still a folder, I value edge retention over toughness on a knife that cant take the shock like a fixed blade can. Some like a 3v or 4v is a great choice. For a EDC knife I like ease of sharpening above most things. Chances are most any steel stays sharp through the day and can be brought back to life at the end with a quick strop.

IMO just get the one that looks the coolest. We all go bananas over metals and 90% of us use our knives to open up new knives we bought. Otherwise its just opening and closing them for fun. Just my 2cents. but out of the two I would go Maximent cause it sounds cool and I like the grey colored FRN. I did hate my blue translucent light weight manix, very slippery in hand. I love the reduced weight metal liners one way more. I have the EDC manix 2. I hope to pick up a blurple one eventually.

Good luck

Alarm and A/V tech. I do always have a fixed also so you have a great point but...

Just like looking and sounding cool, it's cool as hell having a badass steel that holds an edge longer and is tough. Not needed but cool. I can sharpen adequately but it'd be cool to not have to as often.
