Hey Bagger,
How about a comparison between the GB and large Grip sometime. They seem about the same size.
GB940Rookie,
I was looking through the CS Voyager thread from a while ago and I saw your above request.
I think I owe you an apology because I apparently misunderstood and then compared the Grip to the Voyager.
so without further ado :

Kind of like comparing a Honda to a BMW.
contrary to what that sounds like I am not putting down the Honda; to me they are just different.
What . . . are you insane ? ? ? . . . yah that question does come up more than I would expect it to. I’ll try to explain :
Spyderco Gayle Bradley One:
- when you pick it up it says SOLID; he says “I got this” “stand over there out of the way” “what ever you see here today; tell no one and do not run”
- opening goes like this : what just happened ? ? ? how did the knife get opened ? ? ? I was only thinking about opening it ! ! ! Whoa ! ! ! the blade opened so fast and EASSSSSY it slipped out from under me . . . I almost fell down.
- now it is open it is time to think: what’s this ? ? ? I may have made a mistake here; I just don’t know about this blade shape ? ? ? and hollow grind ? ? ? I don’t usually like hollow grind ! Well this sucks.
- Then you take a cut or two and you smile. Start in on some food prep; works much, much better than any hollow grind you ever used for that and discover this hollow grind is NOT over done. Just enough to get that blade to mean business. So you go do some hard job or other with it and it is a bigger job than you thought it was going to be and you don’t have time for this right now but the knife is really going to town and making good time but you know you don’t have time to sharpen . . . when can we get this done in the future ? ? ? ? . . . then . . . huhh . . . the work’s all done . . . must have over dulled that edge . . . shame to do that to a nice knife like this . . . should have kept this great looking treasure in the safe where it belongs and grabbed that old beater.
- take a look at the edge just to have something to berate myself with; I knew this was going too well . . . DAMMMMMB . . . that’s still pretty close to sharp . . . wonder what I could do with that edge right now but all I have is this Spyderco Ultra Fine rod . . . a touch there . . . a touch there . . . test on arm hair . . . OH MY BOB ! ! ! ! I got to be careful with this thing it is freekin’ sooooo sharp ! ! ! I’m almost late gotta go !
- clipped in pocket it rides nice, easy to slide hand past it to get at bottom of pocket = unobtrusive. Get home and change clothes: whoa better take that knife out of my pocket if I toss my pants at the wife while playing around or it falls on the cat might knock ‘em out or put a dent in the floor. That thing is SOOO solid.
- Sitting and sipping something in your chair; pull the GB out and set it on the table . . . move it so it catches the light just right . . . time stands still . . . life is gooooooooood.
(I wish the bullet list had a space between without having to add an extra bullet each time; try it this way this time)
when you pick it up it says with a bit of an apologetic voice yes I feel like a plastic toygivemeachancetoprovemyself. (yes I ran all that together because he is trying to get a word in edge wise before you walk away in disgust).
opening goes well but the thumb stud kind of lets you know it is there. You hear that hollow toy sound as the blade locks up and your hand reaches to put it back on the table and walk away to look for a “Real Knife”. BUT . . . that handle whispers “THHHHHEEEaaaaarrrr . . . doesn’t that feel nice big boy ? ? ?” and something tells you that you would be a freekin’ fool to leave now . . . now that things are starting to get . . . well . . . sort of interesting.
try a little cut; maybe on something that has been challenging . . . that has given other knives trouble. Now it is the Grip's turn to glide so well and effortlessly that it slips out from under you and you take a step to catch yourself. Thinking myyyyyyy thas DIFFERENT ! And that was factory edge right out of the box NO REPROIFILE / NO SHARPENING necessary.
Well I been using it all week; bound to start F’ing up the cuts soon. This can’t go on much longer. Hmmmm edge still feels pretty good guess I won’t complain . . . after all it is just a toy knife . . . nothing to take seriously . . . at least it won’t be taking up room in the safe. Hahahah some times I crack myself up; taking room up in the safe with this little fat looking hunk of ugly plastic. Later that day : Going out to eat dinner in that fancy place . . . sure don’t want this fat assed knife in my pocket . . . better leave the Grip at home . . . there has been a bunch of breakins on the block lately . . . I would REALLY hate for them to pick up the Grip thinking it was a “Good” knife and take it with them by mistake . . . I was REALLY enjoying using the ugly little bastard this week . . . would kind of miss it if I lost it. Better tuck it into the safe.
Clipped in the pocket it is kind of like a fat lady in a phone booth (remember phone booths ?) not much traffic through that phone booth for a while. Get home and change out of work clothes . . . honey have you seen my knife ? ? ? DANG I HOPE I DIDN’T LOOSE IT ! ! ! ! You pat through your pile of clothes and feel nothing and toss them in the hamper. You turn into such an intolerable, whiny storm pot that she starts looking around for it just to shut your sorry ass up and finally digs through your clothes in the hamper checking all the pockets . . . is this it ? ? ? Good . . . I don’t know why you couldn’t just empty your pockets before you put them in the dirty clothes ! ! ! I never put anything in that pocket but the knife; forgot it was there.
oh here we go . . . sure rides nice in this little belt pouch and now that I have taken off that clip I think I will just make this knife my everyday work knife . . . best knife I have ever used at work . . . why would I carry anything else . . . why take a step down right ? ? ? . . . can’t imagine anything being better for work. Hmmmmmm . . . hahaha . . . glad I gave this guy a chance; he shows up early, he works overtime and sometimes doesn’t even clock in.
