Gear Bag Help

For a day hike, I like to carry a small backbag. I have a knife on my belt, and that's the only piece of gear I need often... for the rest, a backbag is convenient enough. In really hot environments I can see the benefits of a shoulder bag. A backbag makes one's back sweat like crazy, and a water bottle is nice to have handy if you need to take a sip every 15 mins...

That said, I have a Maxpedition Jumbo for urban EDC. I have dragged that around the woods a couple of times, but for hours of walking, I noticed that a 1L water bottle, some food, extra shirt, PSK etc is too much weight to be carried on one side alone.

I only have one pic online showing my trusty 15 years old salomon ski-backbag, but I got crazy with Photoshop on that one... sorry 'bout the colors :) (that old stone bridge is one of my favourite spots, btw)

I recently picked up a Maxpedition Falcon-II as a day Hiker / Throw gear in the the Jeep Bag. I LOVE it. For a day pack it has to be the most well designed and perfect size bag I've come across and I am a Bag / pack junkie. The site pics make it look bigger than it actually is. Check it out for your purpose I dont think you will be dissapointed

I'm running a moonsoon gearslinger. The knife pocket is big enough to fit a 9-10 incher in w/o looking too rediculous. Fairly small, but holds enough stuff if you put a few molle pouches on it for a longer weekender.

If you only want to tote your phone, wallet, weapon, torch, knife, a couple of tarzan bars, a bottle of water, and maybe a camera, something from Civilian Labs may well offer you the best carry.

Different packs for different tasks:
Short half-day hikes - Maxi M5 on a shotgun belt. The nylon belt is long enough to throw over your shoulder for a change:

Half-day to fully-day, requiring more H2O - Camelback Mule:

And full-day-to-overnight - Maxi Vulture:

Lots of quality options as you can see from all the posts. Cheers :)
