Gear for around $10....

-Cheap (but functional) baseline compass e.g. a cheap silva or brunton
-Leather work gloves for handling pots and fire
-GSI Cup
-Nalgene bottle - I just found a wide mouth (same as nalgene) SS bottle for $10 - its a goyot type knockoff but of the right size
-Thick emergency blanket (like Skab showed under his tarp in his pics above)
-Small garden trowel - for pulling up edibles and putt'n back in the ground
-Wide brim bush hat
-Bottle of 56% DEET (Bug repellent + fire accelerant)
-Lots of military surplus - mess kit, canteen/canteen cup, ammo bag, web-belt etc
-Fox40 whistle
-Package of REI Stormproof matches + Coghlan match container
-Ikea utenisil cannister - for converting into a twig stove

And the 5x7 backpacker tarp as they call it.

6 grommets, which look pretty weak, but only time will tell and for the $9.98 I paid the nylon should be worth that price. At the size it is, I wouldnt be using it as my main tarp shelter, but would work great for a ground cloth or a quick shleter in day pack.

Comes with a decent stuff sack

Skab Jr and I threw up a couple quick shelers to try it out

I wish they'd do a larger one. I'm wanting my first tarp. One thing I've learned in researching tarps is I can buy 3 cheap poly tarps or one good nylon. Guess I'll hold out for a nylon.

ETA, turns out Outdoor Products does larger tarps in several colors. Grommets though. They say lifetime warranty but you know how that goes with some companies.

I've read good things about the 12x12 Guide Gear tarps - reasonably priced and seem to be back in stock.

Constructed of tough 190T nylon with a 1,000 mm polyurethane water coating. Tarp has factory-taped seams add protection. 17 tie-out points for accomodating all types of shelters. Guy lines included.

How about the grease dispense sold at Walmart for $6.88

The spout on it makes it really easy to pour out of, and the handle is handy as well, would be better if it folded like the Mors pot, but for the money it works just fine.

Will hold just over 56 oz or 7 cups of liquid.

I added a bail, changed out the plastic knob for a metal d-ring, put strainer holes in the lid, and marked the inside for measuring. And can still use the strainer that came with it.

and compared side by side with my 12cm Zebra. The insert and lid from the zebra will fit on the grease pot as well! If only the grease pot was stainless it would be darn near perfect, but its aluminum.

Just ordered 12-250 ct boxes of the Diamond red and white strike anywhere matches.I looked in 6 or 7 stores here with no luck, just strike on box.
I did find some orange water proof match tubes at wal mart for 1.00 each. They are a china copy of the Military ones but still not bad for a dollar and they come with matches.

just got two of those 1 dollar match safes last night,i knew they came with 25 matches, but what i did'nt know, was that inside the tube with the matches,is a striker pad that has adhesive so you can stick it to the outside of the tube! pretty good deal for a dollar i think! -fed

I liked that striker that came with it too.I cut out a circle and stuck it inside the cap so it would not get wet.If you do that be sure to point the match heads toward the bottom.
