I bought this bag over in Dubai while I was there and have been using it for about 2 months now. It is one of the best camera bags I have owned and suits my needs perfectly so I thought I would give it a brief review.

First it is a good looking little back pack that doesn’t necessarily look like a computer/SLR bag which is sometimes good. The nylon is durable and there is a nice tough handle of reinforced nylon at the top.

The zippers surrounding the SLR compartment are waterproof.

The SLR compartment fits my Nikon D50 equipped with the standard 18-55 mm lens well. It won’t accommodate my camera with the 70-300 mm zoom though. I also tried it with a Sigma 10-20 mm that I borrowed and it would not fit.

The bottom compartment of the bag is designed to house additional lenses. It easily accommodates the 70-300 mm zoom (but not likely one of Evolute’s 2.5 f-stop zooms). The compartment has movable shelves that can be adjusted via Velcro. They are incredibly secure and will stick onto any part of the interior surface.

Since I only have one other lens for my camera I sort of stacked the shelves below. I could pull them out, but they seem to add reinforcement when in place and I usually don’t need more room on day hikes. I added my PSK (which I won’t go into its contents here), an oversized fire kit, hanky, hand sanitizer, electrical tape and power bar. There is usually room for my lunch as well. This isn't totally optimized for space, but suites my need on most of my dayhikes.

The side compartments are also very roomy and have mesh pockets on both the inside and outside of the main pocket. On the outside, I keep my sunglasses in their case. The buckles can accommodate a small tripod.

Inside, I have some of my hardware – my new RC-4 (unless it is on my belt), Mag LED light, Leatherman Juice; eyeglass/lens cleaner and cloth, some pens and one of those little emergency whistles (it is redundant to what is in my PSK)

The other side pocket holds the electronics for camera. This includes – spare camera battery, spare memory card, battery charger , USB cord. The last two aren't needed when I’m just going for day hikes. I also sometimes have my MP3 Player and yet another hanky. I just like hanky’s!

The reason for my split decision to buy this bag in the first place was that the back houses a laptop computer, and while in Dubai I needed a computer bag & better camera bag. This little baby holds both. Obviously, I don’t bring in the computer on day hikes, but it is nice to have. I can also stuff my lighter gortex jacket and pants (stuffables sized ones) in there.

Finally a shot of the back. The pack is really nicely padded with ventilation mesh. I was still sweating in Dubai, but I think the mesh helps quite a bit. It also has a waist strap. While not overly thick, I find the waste strap still helps quite a bit when the bag is packed with both camera & laptop.

Other great little features include these pockets on the strap themselves. I haven’t figured out what to stick in there yet, but I considering a little bic lighter in at least one of them.

The bottom is very solid and I think it is waterproofed – although I haven’t tested this out yet. The only parts that have shown wear are the thinner mesh pockets. The corkscrew from the juice snagged the mesh one time and cut a small hole in an inner pocket.

Total cost was $105 USD. I think it was really worth it!

KGD,

Cool bag. How did you like Dubai, I just sent out a quote for a job that will take me over there. My lady is British, but she spent a lot of time in that area and liked it a lot....

mneedham - it is very westernized there with its shopping and big malls. You have to be a bit careful when negotiating jobs unless you are bidding to work with a western firm and they are taking care of the legals. Just a friendly warning that there are some redtape hurdles that are meant screw over the foreign employee and empower the employer.

Living there is quite interesting though. Cabs are super cheap and it is very easy to get around. There isn't really a centre of the town, the whole place is sprawl. You can find some interesting things in the old Suk markets. Not many good knife selections that I could find. Great place for gold, watches and persian rugs. One thing you should definitely do if you have extra time is to rent a car and go to Oman where the scenary is stunning (I posted a thread of a camping trip there last month in WS&S). It is about a two and half hour drive.

Best of luck on your trip and I'd be glad to talk to you about it more if you like.

KGD,

Thanks for the info.. My lady calls it the land of white marble and big cigars, and insists that I buy her gold if I go over (she even drew a map for me)... I would be a sub to an American contractor who is performing work for Bechtel or someone like that (nobody ever reveals the client anymore)... I'll give you a shout if the job materializes.. Thanks again.. BTW, I really like the bag!
