GEC #16 canoe & GEC #68 white owl

I also don't have a canoe, but I love the white owl, was drooling over some different WO versions recently and thought about the canoe, can't say what pushes me to the WO other then I already really like it and the Canoe's an unknown. Saw a post the other day that said "knife collectors what what other knife collectors have" (sorry can't remember who said it :eek: maybe it's a simple as that.

I went for a 68. A Northfield, in cocobolo with a clip main. Very smooth action. Good size and pocket feel. Honestly the GEC canoe just doesn't appeal to me because of the bolsters. I think them a little ugly, just to my own eye. Also, on canoe patterns in general they are pretty big and the main reason for the size is to protect the pockets from the sharpe edges or vice versa. But it isn't the case with the GEC version. If you look at just about any other manufacturer they do. I have to say GEC baffled me with the design of their canoe.

In general, I like the canoe pattern, but I haven't been attracted to the GEC version at all. It just doesn't call out to me.

KYenglish, I guess that makes me not a collector. I have been influenced by this forum quite a bit however.

The canoe is maybe my favorite pattern. The case version is great, right down to the etch. The GEC doesn't look right to me. And the canoe bolsters leaving the tang is exposed doesn't make sense at all.

It looks more like a kayak.

A puzzler to me as well, to make a canoe pattern and leave the tang ends exposed.

"Kayak" = :D

A top-rider at that!
