Gec #21?

The 21 is big, think Buck 110 size, but thinner. I really like the 42 LB and LOVE my 72LB. I wish they would make a 21 LB with the same clip blade shape as my beloved 72 and 42.

I bought all of my gec knives at either the Blade show or the
Dalton knife show. Except one dealer that had his own sfo I wanted.

That's a great piece of info; I don't carry my 110 because of it's size (it's in my B.O.B.). I'm really liking the wharncliffe and sheepsfoot blades that GEC puts out, but that
42 looks perfect, too.

I don't own any traditionals, so I was thinking of picking up a GEC 21. I was wondering what people thought of them and if there any good action pics to be shared. If you don't recommend the 21, let me know another one that you think would be a good starter GEC. Thanks!

The Bull Buster (#21) models have a stouter pull and thus harder snap than some are going to like; but then again, it will have its fans. They fill the hand nicely and are showing up with really exceptional f/f for a sodbuster type. I would like to see the make-up differences in O1 and 1095 (but am too lazy to look it up); but I don't expect it is significant.

Bob is right on the OD micarta's; they were mostly linen with some numbers in canvas to use what was on-hand.

I'm really glad I asked about the 21 - I think it will end up spending too much time in the drawer because of the size.

Thanks again, everyone.

doh!!! What I meant to say was they have perfect pull, perfect snap, and fit perfectly in the average persons hands!!!
No wonder I am going broke ;)

Some quick pictures of my new #21 Bull Buster in comparison with a #23 frame:

I really like it. It is absolutely sturdy feeling, with no play or anything. It has great f&f, with no gaps, great centering, and a perfect (imo) pull for a knife of this size. I would rate the pull at a 7 ish, but with the nice deep and far out nail nick it is easy to open (moreso even than my #23, which I had the pull lightened on by GEC). At each knife's thickest point they are pretty much the same, just by eyeballing it, but the #23 is thinner at the bolsters. As far as I can tell they have identical blade lengths. One thing that really bothers me is how many traditional knives' tips come so close to being proud of the frame. I don't think this will be much of a problem on this knife because of the frame shape and that the blade shape lends itself to having the tip dropped further. I do wish it was O1 because all of my other GECs are 1095 and O1 is supposed to be a bit better for a rough user, but it'll do. I didn't know when I preordered that there would be micarta versions, and I do think I'll take a look at pictures of those before sharpening or using this (incase I want to try for a trade).

ALLHSS,

does the #21 have half stops? and it looks like the handles are thicker than the normal nifebrite handles on other knives? I ordered one just like yours.

Guys, how does this blade carry in pocket? I have always loved a sod buster design.

I have to say, the single blade 23, and even d Po unless blade 23 both carry better in the pocket than the Buck 110. It is heavier, but more importantly, thicker!

I pocket carry a two blade 23 all the time with no issues.

I haven't carried the #21 in pocket yet, but I've been carrying my #23 most days lately and it is pretty easy to carry beside a phone, wallet, or just in the back pocket. I think the 21 would carry fine.

I think I've been more excited about this pattern than anything gec has out out recently. I have an OD canvas on order. Can't come soon enough!
