I have a weakness for small but stout knives ("little big men"), and that includes GEC 3 inchers. I recently picked up this Northfield #25 EZ Open spear point in burnt stag, courtesy of our fellow member Buzzard217 (who was a real pleasure to deal with, btw). There was plenty of room on the wide blade, so I decided to thin out the edge and see if I could make a mini ultra-slicer out of it. I got busy with my Work Sharp, and am pretty happy with the results.

As others have pointed out, the EZ Open cut-out not only makes pinch grip opening easy, but also furnishes a handy resting point for your third finger, enhancing the grip. The added thickness of the stag also contributes, resulting in a very secure grip for a three-finger knife.

All in all, this is a very capable and fun little knife, and I'm really enjoying my EZ Slicer.

Great bevel (must send you my Queens....:D)

These are really nice stout small knives, I like the broad blades and have a Northfield in jigged bone Spear plus a Tidioute (got on a trade here) with Sheepfoot. Such excellent knives to own and use, these are lookers too:thumbup:

Andrew,
I own the same knife (mine is 440C though), and I love it too.
I haven't tried putting such an acute angle on my edge...but even now, my Elk #25 slices just fine :)

Thanks for the comments, guys.

willgoy, I confess that the only time I've tried sharpening D2, it gave me fits, and I've steered clear of it since. But, I have a little more sharpening experience now, so maybe I'll give it another try sometime---some of those D2 Queens are hard to resist.:)

Fausto, I enjoyed the pics you put up of your #25 elk EZ in 440C. It is a very handsome knife, and probably gave me an extra push when I saw this one up for sale.

Cheers,

Andrew
