GEC #33 Conductor Whittler

Here's a quick pic of the Boker:

Look at post #4 on this thread for a good definition of a "whittler": http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...ighlight=levine's+definition+whittler+pattern

Thanks for the link!

Jwren, if your Boker has one blade at the end resting on both springs, two secondaries each on a separate spring on t'other, putting your image together with the images and information on the other thread I'd guess you had a "parallel spring" whittler.

Just a guess!

If the main blade is on just one of the springs, you got yerself a "whittlin' knife," but not a whittler. ;)

Also linked from that thread:
"Whittler" was never a pattern name, or a term of art in the cutlery industry.

Some knives were etched WHITTLER in various forms... and as noted, not all of those were what we now call whittlers.
I've seen stock knives, cattle knives, and others with that etch.

Marketing.

BRL...

:D

... Whomever decided to popularize (finalize? successfully market?) the split-spring pattern as one to create and, in these later years, re-create, I'm grateful. I do admire the construction.

For once I was in the right place at the right time ;)

I love the blue as well, it will be my user for sure. Great little pattern that is growing on me very quickly. It was a tough call between the two blues that where available but the tuna brought back fond memories for me as the denim did for you. Ill try to round up some photo's to tell the story sometime soon :)

I look forward to hearing it.

Very nice Jeff, love the blue tuna, wish I had been a little more snappy when those were released. What is the the name of the acrylic on the other one I don't recognize it?

Edit: Just found what that other one is called from your show your acrylics thread...sandstone, its nice, never even saw that one listed anywhere must have been a pretty limited production.

Thanks. The sandstone is 1 of 2 and the blue tuna is 1 of 4. I hope they use these more in the future as well as some of the others. Wish I could pick up the pineapple as well, the red bone looks real nice too. Oh and I am really starting to like stag. Cant forget ebony either lol

rockgolfer - those look great! I didn't realize the blue tuna was only 1 of 4, and wasn't even aware of the sandstone...nice snags!

That snakewood version has really been tempting me...little spendy for me though at the moment

(Checks pockets to make sure my own denim conductor is still here. Whew.)

It's all your fault and for that I thank you friend.

You're welcome!

I'm glad you were able to get one, and that you like it!

The coloring/pattern of this Denim seems to look fairly consistent from knife to knife, unlike others (such as Dead Skunk, Polar Ice, etc.) in which some knives can have a lot more or less of certain colors/lines than others. Works for me!

This particular Conductor "pose" always makes me smile. The stag looks great; beautiful picture.

Congratulations to all of you who ended up with this knife. I still tell myself that it hasn't been that long that I have been into traditionals, but these really caught my eye

I also wanted to bump this thread up to the top because a guy was asking what GEC knives they liked, so I linked it into his thread as well.
