I have yet to see any sort of comprehensive review of this knife on the internet, so if you excuse my quick and dirty iPad photos, I will give you my impressions.
I love this knife.
The name is perfect. Not only is it a maverick in that it is, as far as I can tell, the world's first congress stockman, but if you take into account a certain fictional gambler played by James Garner, it is a gentleman cowboy knife.
Here it is in comparison to the 66 Calf Roper:
As you can see, the blade length to handle ratio is better on the calf roper, but for me, the Maverick feels better in the hand as well as the pocket. I don't even notice it in my right front pocket. It's light and stays upright next to my front pocket wallet. In addition, the sheepsfoot blade is not uncomfortable at all in the handle while using the other blades. On the calf roper, the sheepsfoot definitely sticks out enough to cause some discomfort and change of grip.
I think it is rather unfortunate that this knife was released practically days before the Outlaw Jack, as that is the knife that will undoubtedly steal the spotlight. This 62 Maverick might be relegated to cult status for those who do buy and love it, and an object of curiosity for those it leaves cold.
Me? I'm very glad I took a chance on it.
Thank you for looking.
